That's okay, we need one of those too.

Or a DE. Patrick Fleming cand play in JJ's spread. He could shed 10 lbs and get a little quicker. A big target for JWill.

Maybe younger Burley gets moved back to a big target receiver too.

Or perhaps Jones changes his offense a little to fit personnel until he gets it just the way he wants it.

If he asked you real nice would you let him use a tight end every now and then? Maybe if we got way ahead just to make them happy?
As much as I appreciate the recruiting analysis you provide, it amazes me that you can not imagine a successful person in any line of work not adjusting to the talent around him. I would bet there has been a time in JJs career that he lined up a TE and ran a play. Now whether or not he feels we have the talent to do so is another question, but I would bet if the reincarnation of John Mackey showed up, he would find a way to get him in the game.

Please forgive Stallion. He has all the "charm" of a Water Buffalo. That being said, if you are looking at him playing on the next level, OT is a much better place to be than TE. They are paid more and have a longer life in the NFL. Someone can help me with a name but, Miami recruited the top TE out of the Woodlands a few years ago. Once he found that he was going to always be the second TE behind a guy by the name of Winslow he asked the coaches to change his position. They are now both playing in the NFL...and doing quite well.

My statement is not in regard to V. Chase. It is to his firm statement that JJ would never play a TE. And I am very well versed in Stallion's bedside manner. I still appreciate the info he provides.

the Run and Shoot simply does not employ a TE. Tom Rossley? June Jones? Mouse Davis? John Jenkins? Jack Pardee? They don't use TEs. Never have. June Jones is strictly a Run and Shoot Coach. Vincent Chase's No. 1 trait as a highly recruited TE was his blocking ability. He has never caught a lot of passes either in High School or College. Note he's always been used even as a freshman as an extra blocking TE. He has the frame and athleticism to play OT in the NFL and I have little doubt that is where he will play next year. Many scouts consider him a better OT prospect anyway. He doesn't have the set of skills to be used as a Receiver in the Run and Shoot.
Now the Patrick Fleming kid was a tweener TE all along. He could move to outside receiver. The 2 inside receivers are generally between 5-9 and 5-11 and can turn on a dime. Vincent Chase is too big to play inside receiver and two slow to play Outside Receiver. He will be a OT-and probably a very good one. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets drafted by the NFL as an OT. I thought he would likely get a shot as an OT in the NFL even if he had remained as a TE his entire career. The NFL routinely looks for TEs with big frames to make the switch to OT in the NFL because they look for kids with quick feet.

The run and shoot should work well for Burley. HE settles in at WR doesn't he.

OK. As I said, my remark was not in regard to Chase. But I look at Jones as a coach that could adapt to what he has if necessary. Perhaps a spread with a TE would be best. I do not know. That is why he gets $1.8 million. I say we wait for 2 things. First, hire him and 2nd, let him build his offense.

That's no fun for a message board full of AD and coaching geniuses.

Actually I think about Oklahoma (with Switzer I believe although they have had plenty of good coaches) when they had Troy Aikman and went to a pro style. Aikman breaks his ankle and they convert to wishbone due to personnel. Troy comes back and can not get in the line up and transfers. Yes Ok lost an All American QB but they won National Championships by adjusting.

Hi, hawaii fan here. No TEs. Haven't seen one in 9 years. He did move a lot of big players (former DL) to RB so the TE may end up there. One who is doing well is Reagan Mauia with the Dolphins. Moved from NG to RB in his last year.
If JJ goes there, treat him well. He's a good coach. Sometimes a bit arrogant and one phrase you will hear is "We do what we do" That may be regarding using a TE or anything else about his offensive scheme that others do not understand.

As long as he hasn't forgotten more football than we know, we'll be okay.

John Hampton and Trent Hrncr aren't going to be happy about no TEs. Come on, we've got to have TEs!
