Why didn't we just hire Fran three weeks ago? SMU would probably have 2 or 3 State Top 100 running back commits by now. Do we really need to go back to the run and shoot again?

There is no certainty that Fran's hire would "open the floodgate" for the recruits.
Jones brings with him a huge national presence, the reputation of turning around a morbid program immediately, a well respected and inventive offense, and has been a NFL head coach. If you ask me, we can't ask for a more perfect situation if this does in fact materialize.

JJ is employed and Fran is not.

.....because it would have made way too much sense to hire a strong, well-known, well-established coach with strong recruiting capabilities and Texas ties.
how else do you think we remain in the shadow of the Death Penalty after 20+ years as one of the 5-worst teams in DI??? By making stupid decisions!!

I'll preface this by saying that I would have had no problem with the hiring of Fran. I won't have a problem if that's what we ultimately do either. However, there are a couple of reasons why we didn't go that route 2 or 3 weeks ago:
1. I think we were already on the trail of June Jones at that point. Getting a guy who just had a very successful season is better than getting a guy who just got fired for lack of success.
2. Fran is somewhat damaged goods due to the problems he had when he left A&M. (the secret newsletter, etc)

I guess beating UT is no big deal.planoponyfan wrote:Glenn Sosbee wrote:Why didn't we just hire Fran three weeks ago? SMU would probably have 2 or 3 State Top 100 running back commits by now. Do we really need to go back to the run and shoot again?

If JJ comes here, which I hope he does, this whole process clearlly seperates JJ from Fran. He is not looking for a promotion or even more money...just respect and after nine years for someone to listen and act on his recommendations to fix the UH program. This is obviously tearing him apart...I would say if both coaches are equal in recruiting and football the thing that clearly seperates JJ is "Loyalty"--even in resigning JJ is forcing the UH to change their ways for the better.

Fran hasn't been worth a flip since GP stayed at TCU...
