He is not looking for a promotion or even more money...just respect and after nine years for someone to listen and act on his recommendations to fix the UH program. This is obviously tearing him apart...I would say if both coaches are equal in recruiting and football the thing that clearly seperates JJ is "Loyalty"--even in resigning JJ is forcing the UH to change their ways for the better.
Dude, this is more $$. Almost 2x as much as any other CUSA coach.

TCU has been a power ever since Fran "bounced" through there. All anyone asks for is a few years, just to turn things around. Who cares about loyalty?Mexmustang wrote:The money got him to listen, no question about it, but I really feel that if he comes, he will be our coach for as long as we will have him--one more...loyalty. Remember the question was about "bounce about Fran"

Fran would do very well at SMU. You guys kill me...with that attitude, I guess Bama should have not hired that LSU bum Saban? SoCarolina should have passed on that bum Steve S.? Where was Hayden Fry before he came to the Hilltop? JJ will be a solid hire, but come on, Fran would be a WOW, as well, and maybe a better fit.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I was at the game in Fort Worth when Fran's 0-10 (before the game) team beat the Ponies and kept us out of a probable Independence Bowl berth. That's always my first thought when his name is brought up. If we hired him and he succeeded, I'm sure I would forgive him, but it would take some convincing. Just my two cents.

I look at JJ coming here and accomplishing as much or more than Jack Pardee did at UH (Houston) about 20 years ago. JJ like Pardee, is really a professional coach with NFL experience that loves college coaching. JJ will do great here no question and is over qualified for our job. I think JJ will be able to recruit well here also. Coach Jones is great at finding talent.

To me here's how the wow response would go over with Fran:
Wow, you guys hired THAT guy? Good luck. The first few sentences of the press release would go something like this: SMU hired former Texas A&M Coach Dennis Franchione who was 32-28 with no bowl wins with Texas A&M before being fired for running a for profit insider newsletter.
As far as I can remember Franchione was given every chance to succeed at Texas A&M but was only a few games over .500 and screwed everything up by posting a secret bulletin to boosters. Yea great catch he would be.
With Jones, it's just wow, what a great hire. No questionable morals, no questionable ethics, just a good solid guy who's proven that he can take a down program and turn it around.

Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!
