At least Copeland could close a deal..................

Postby PonySnob » Sun Jan 06, 2008 11:51 pm

Did Copeland ever have such a hard time finding a coach as Orsini seems to be? Copeland never had to pay somebody $2 million to be the SMU football coach!

Copeland wasn't smart enough or aggressive enough to raise the money in the first place!

Look at the Mustangs' W-L record during Copeland's time on The Hilltop. 'Nuff said.

No, because Copeland never remotely sniffed the high calibur of coach that Orsini is going after. SMU could have had a coach the day after it fired Bennett if it had cold called all the high school coaches in Dallas. However, I don't think they would win many games that way.

Didn't Copeland raise all the money to build Ford?

Has it been much better under SO? At least under Copeland, we had a winning season!

I thought Gerald J. Ford raised most of the money?

I know you relish your role as the negative contrarian on this board, but my God man, Copeland?

That's what you want? One winning season every couple of decades? You don't think Doherty makes the future better for basketball? You don't think a coach like June Jones makes the future better for football? Bad-mouthing Steve-O's management style when he's shooting for the moon — a move that will change the landscape of SMU athletics — is idiotic. The fact is there are a lot of candidates still out there, desperate for work, and that doesn't matter. In 24 hours, June Jones will be our coach.
Go PONIES!
