An Alternative Theory

Postby huskerpony » Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:31 am

Could it be that this has less to do with Jones coming back the conquering hero? Could it be that they are toying with UH and trying to build the drama for the big announcement before the national championship game?

Jones is such a great guy that he was so torn up about leaving Hawaii that he still held out hope they would pull through at the last minute, but in the end the university just doesn't have the commitment to winning. SMU has clearly changed their attitude and is fully committed to being a top program again. Why wouldn't you want to come play for a program that is this committed to winning and a coach that has a heart of gold?

Sounds like the fairytale ending. I wish the SMU got to be the princess every once in a while.

what? Jones is not going to jack around hawaii at this point. He has friends and a legacy there. No such loyalty to us.

I really hope you are right. I also thought that even if Hawaii did up their ante, I wonder if (a) it's too little too late, or (b) it will have taken so much to get their offer increased that they won't have funds to do other things that Jones wants them to do? Who knows at this point.

Time to step into a bottle of Stoli and when I come out of my alcohol induced coma, maybe we'll have a coach?

I was thinking the same thing, a perfect storm of drama and publicity heading into the big announcement on Monday. When was the last time SMU got this much publicity?

I don't know that it was carefully planned or orchestrated, but if he is announced as SMUs coach tomorrow, its a home run for SMU!

Of course if he does return to the Islands, that will REALLY suck!

Let me rephrase.... when was the last time SMU got this much POSITIVE publicity.

There, that's better.

1987 was like getting kicked in the groin about 100 times.

Best Thing we have going

Postby hubberlang » Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:53 am

I may need to be better educated here, but it seems to me that the best thing going for us is that Jones would have a real hard time existing in the same time zone with UH's Athletic Director let alone at the same university. Are they getting rid of their AD and allowing JJ to hand pick a successor? How can you go back after this media circus?
