I doubt if it has anything to do with academic restictions. It's about money. Hawaii has evened the playing field somewhat with their last offer regarding money and facilities. Steinberg is doing what good agents are paid to do. He is waiting to see if he can wrangle some more bucks out of SMU. Then his client can decide where he would most want to be. If he chooses SMU, cool. If he goes back to the islands, let's hope we can indeed get Fran in here...........

Gerald Turner was at Ole Miss before coming to SMU. Lubbock Christian was quite a while ago.

How relaxed do the standards need to be? In my humble opinion, they should largely match whatever UT-Austin does since SMU is a comparable academic institution.

I don't think it is that much about money anymore. I think it is about whether JJ believes that Hawaii is serious about the changes that they are talking about, and about whether it is worth it to him to go back there with the possibility that the promises are empty.
