So glad that Jerry Maquire is June's agent!

June wouldn't have ended up at Hawaii if not for Leigh "Jerry Maguire" Steinberg. And he wouldn't be at SMU now if not for Mr. Steinberg. He's just such a breath of fresh air in the sports/entertainment/agent world. Looking at what's best for the player/coach in all perspectives.

For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, Cameron Crowe followed Leigh for two years (more?) leading up to Jerry Maguire. True his original inspiration was his favorite film director, but in terms of molding the character it was Leigh. Much of the Cush stuff was based on Leigh and Bledsoe at the draft, of course Bledsoe stuck with Steinberg, but Cameron couldn't believe all the folks trying to steal the soon-to-be number one pick away from Steinberg. Also the show me the money line came from one of Steinberg's clients (though it was a Crowe creation) and, purportedly, he sought romantic advise from one of his clients - Warren Moon - just as Maguire does from the Gooding, Jr. character. Oh yeah, and when he's calling the family after his client suffers a concussion, that was a scene straight out of him calling several members of Aikman's family after one of his concussions.

Steinberg served later then as a consultant on the film (as well as consulting on Any Given Sunday and Arli$$ among others)... I wonder if the SMU connection was his or Cameron's?

The number one pick in the draft - QB Cushman - was from SMU in the film.

Now let's hope that June Jones can make that fiction a reality!!!

.........

But this whole thing - what I am meaning to say is - Leigh Steinberg is a truly unique individual in the sporting landscape. No way another agent would have encouraged this move, much less facilitated it. He knows his clients and he knows their desires.

I give all the credit in the world to Orsini... but we can't forget Steinberg.

Oh you know it!

.... and I'm not saying June wouldn't have come here without Leigh - but Leigh is just one of those special people, and he aligns himself with special people.

When asked who would play him in a movie, he said "well when you've already been played by Tom Cruise, anyone else is kind of a step down."

That was before the couch-jumping insanity. Now, anyone else would be a step up.

Is it weird that I still like Tom Cruise? In fact maybe even more that he is now an international weirdo?

He just seems so much more kooky now. I love that little whack job!

He hasn't aged well. I prefer his Top Gun & Risky Business days. He just looks odd now.

The only agent to ever induct one of his clients into the hall of fame...has to speak for his character if you ask me

True. I still go with Brad Pitt in the junior high supposition of who would it be if you had to for this unbelievable thing to happen... of course I never liked to answer those questions, because well, your in a lose lose situation if you answer.

Though right now Steve Orsini is gaining on Brad Pitt.

Oh gee, I hope Steve-O doesn't read this board... otherwise this summer at the coaches tour -

ThadFilms: Good coffee, huh?
SO: Yeah... awkward.
ThadFilms: Yeah, um... so, uh good job with June, huh?
SO: Yeah, so, thanks.
ThadFilms: Right, so I'm gonna' step out to the patio and mainline some tomato soup.

LONG PAUSE

SO: Cool. Sure.
ThadFilms: Have you met my girlfriend Gisele Bundchen?
