Read most of that HF thread earlier today.... the folks that run that board are great friends of mine.
Honestly. The two people that run it? A married couple. They told me that the last time (this season) that SMU was on TV, they watched it just because of me... and they rooted for Smoo because of me. That meant a lot to me. Really.

There are some real buffoons in the thread on the Longhorn site. My favorite is the UT "grad" who hasn't quite figured out what an average is.
While living in Montana, people would see my mustang logo on my car and come over and ask me about how SMU was doing. Outside of Texas there is a lot of sympathy for SMU, believing they were singled-out, but inside Texas you still have so many naive/deliberately blind holier than thou types.

I spoke to a Baylor friend (Baylor grad; SMU MBA) last night and he felt that SMU hit a homerun with their hire, while Baylor got a double.
I thought it was a very interesting observation and I agree. Briles is a good coach, but Jones' star (at least for now) is so much brighter.

The reason I dislike UT football is because of UT fans. Most of them feel like they are owed something just for being UT.
I ridiculed a buddy of mine a few years ago (pre-national championship) when he was complaining about Mack Brown. I told him that there were programs out there who would DIE to be ranked in the top 10 year-in, year-out and that he should shut the hell up.

I can't stand most UT fans either, which is why I tend to ignore the vast majority of them. Then again, I haven't met many fans from other programs that didn't exhibit some bit of whining about their team's relative success. *cough*SMU*cough*Aggie*cough*

True, but whining about the success (or lack thereof) of your team to a fan of another team with a LOT less success is grounds for hatred.

agreed. which is why I am one of the few fans you won't hear whining (at least not on my team's success as a whole... individual game performance is a completely different matter).

I am sure he loves hearing suggestions to do things that are already done, don't we all? SMU is scheduled to play Baylor 2011-2013.

But I have hope that with JJ as our new coach that in a couple years we'll have the talent to beat Tech. Maybe not year-in, year-out, but at least once out of every 3 meetings or something like that. If we stop playing them, we lose the chance to see that happen.

Yeah, congrats
Congratulations. I think it's a great hire. It's going to be a while before you have the receivers and offensive linemen to run the offense effectively, but once you do it will be a lot of fun.
It's great watching your team and knowing that even if they get a illegal procedure penalty or even a holding penalty on 1st down, you've got a great shot at overcoming that and continuing the drive.
It's great watching your team and knowing that even if they get down a couple of touchdowns, they have the capability of catching up.
Having said all that, we're still gonna mudhole the Ponies on Sept. 13..
Oh, and remember to set the TiVo for an extra 90 minutes of record time for your games.
