I dig these the most.. very very nice!
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Old school uniforms do not deter recruits. Tell that to LSU and Ohio St. and especially Penn St., who haven't changed their unis since Warren Van Buren was president. I agree with DickerJames, there are some things a coach should not be able to touch.
That's our problem. You guys still believe that we are the equal of the LSU's Penn. State's and Ohio State's. So far, SMU is the mold on the dirt under the mat that those schools use to wipe thier feet on. You want to attract kids to East Be Nowhere State (aka present day SMU) you'll need to do something to stand out to the current crop of recruits, not their fathers.
Of course I don't believe we are the equal of LSU, Penn St., Ohio St... But I do believe our classic 80s uniforms stand up to theirs in terms of design. They should never have been changed in the first place. And kids do NOT choose a team because of their uniforms. "Hey mom, I know SMU is 1-11. But boy, their uniforms sure are pretty...they make me look like I'm in the Arena League! I think I'll go there." That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I don't believe a recruit or a player thinks that way. And I don't think they ought to really have a "choice" about what they wears on the football field, whether we're 1-11, or 11-1. That should be left up to the athletic department and tradition.
We wonder how our traditions go down the commode, and at the same time we let our coaches "fix" the uniforms, instead of fixing the team.

like 35 I wore both... the only thing I hated was the two tone socks and grey pants... but I am loving the white cleats. also I'm a big fan of nike, I've heard a lot of complaints from friends at A&M about the quality of their new gear

Being from Houston and always liking the Cowboys, one of the things I love about the Cowboys is the stripe on both the helmet and pants. The Cowboys are a timeless franchise with a classic look. Why can't we bring back the stripes on our helmets and uniforms?

Agreed. That's what Ron Meyer did. He changed the uniform to appeal to inner city kids who thought the plain burnt orange or lame aggie maroon was too conservative. That being said, I have no clue what kids like today.

Good point I guess, just my fear is that the more 'busy' the uniform looks the higher potential to look 'dated' there is.

is it a definite thing that the helmets are getting changed? The white/red ones look so much better than what we have now.

UT's helmet passes this test, as does LSU, Penn St., and too many others to mention.
Our current helmets do not pass this test, from a distance it looks like a blob of red paint on a navy helmet.
KnuckleStang gives THE reason why we should be going back to the Pony Express look with the above statement. It's not about retro or what the unis were when you were in school or if the team was winning then.
Besides, KnuckleStang should get to choose the next unis by virtue of his hit video "Pony Up".
