The other guys were more drifters than a "marked guy".
So you would prefer a 'Drifter' to JJ because in 5 years the 'Drifter' is more likely to stay?
I truly believe SMU's commitment to winning is much more important than its coach.
Apparently we now have BOTH...so let's sit back and enjoy the ride.

I do believe that Jones was quoted as saying he wanted ths job to be his last job... and he wasn't asked that as a question, it was just a statement made offhand.

No, your are not making a correct observation, you're just being an @ss. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Your observation depends entirely on the passage of time, five years according to your prediction. At the very best, and it is very tenuous to say the least given that his letters to friends published in the HI paper over the weekend, you can say your observation might turn out to be correct in the future. Correct observation my @ss.....

For the first year in California, I couldn't get back to Texas fast enough. A few years out there, and I lament trading South Orange County for my hometown, no matter how comfortable it is. Home is what you make of it.
Jones will be fine. He will build friendships here, and hopefully we all will experience a magical ride; hell, I'd take a less-than-magical-but-still-cool-ride. SMU will deal with the future when it becomes the present. Right now, why does this matter?

"I Agree! Clearly the loser/victim mentallity must be removed from this fan base. Enough already. This is a new day. I promise you we could have GJF hire Pete Carroll, transfer in every single player from USC, win the national championship and some of you guys would still find a way to complain."
wait a minute! pete carroll isn't an smu guy!

We have a five-year deal with this consultant, but he is not really a Mustang, but just a Rainbow Warrior dressed up like a Mustang. Do not be surprised when Hawaii gets their act together and then June goes back to them to retire (with all new facilities). It will take them 5-Years to do that.
No doubt I will take it and he will leave us in a better place...but he is still a UH guy.

and that would suck after we are in a bowl how exactly?

Looking ahead 5 years from now, I can only allude to the immortal words of Johnny Cash:
"I could dress up like a Rainbow every single day,
But then I'd have to prove that I'm not gay"

I'll take the 5-year rental. If that's the worst case scenario, then it's a great deal.
Who knows what the future holds for JJ. What about the old saying, "you can't go home again." He may love the [hopefully] new football culture at SMU. Then again, the underdog in him may seek out another reclamation project. If that's the case, then we've won.

Let's also keep in mind that the coaching profession is one of the most, if not the most transient professions going. To have a coach with you for five years is an eternity in this day.
Guys like Mack Brown and Bob Stoops and Purdue's Joe Tiller and the recently retired Michigan's Lloyd Carr are the exception.
It might be the lack of air conditioning at Cameron finally getting to our Dukie brethren after all these years.

And Florida State's Bobby Bowden
I better be careful. This list is going to take off and then my argument will blow up.

This not a JUNE JONES ATTACK.
This is not a SKY is FALLING.
I am VERY happy with this hire.
I was pointing out and it is STILL CORRECT. His heart is in Hawaii. Nothing more, nothing less. STOP reading into it.
As I have stated in all the other posts. Great hire, he will win, he will make SMU a better place. BUT he is still a Hawaii guy. That is all.
I didn't realize this site grew long hair and put on a skirt. Stop being so sensitive.
