HONOLULU -- The University of Hawaii and Herman Frazier on Tuesday reached a buyout agreement for the embattled athletic director, UH officials said.
The deal comes one day after Warrior football head coach June Jones accepted a deal to leave the islands for Southern Methodist University.
The school agreed to pay Frazier $312,510. Frazier makes about $250,000 a year. His contract was set to expire on July 31, 2010.
School officials and Frazier are still working out the details, UH said. The deal must still be approved by the UH Board of Regents.
Officials said Manoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw will recommend Associate Athletics Director Carl Clapp become the acting director. Clapp will help the school find a new head football coach, according to the school's written statement.
Many in the public blamed Frazier for a schedule that did not include top-tier non-conference opponents other than Washington.
Frazier has also been blamed for turning down thousands of tickets Hawaii could have received for the Sugar Bowl. The school had to scramble to get more tickets to accommodate fans who made the long trip.

UH is better off today without Frazier. They can still have a good footbal program if they take the following steps:
1. Hire one of the current assistants who does not plan to follow Jones to SMU.
2. Put 25 million in a bank account that can only be used to upgrade facilities for the football program.
3. Make the head football coach the athletic director as well.
4. Quadruple the recruiting budget.
If they do those things, they'll still be a decent football program.
