What can I do?

Postby ponyte » Mon Nov 17, 2003 9:57 am

We have complained and complained about the Ponies this year. No offense, no defense, poor special teams, pathetic coaching and on and on. I am tired of complaining.

What can I do to improve SMU football? I can't play or coach so those fantasies are out.

I can support the organization. Moral, spiritual and financial support is within my capabilities to deliver.

What about volunteer work? If the opportunities arise, I will.

Alumni support. Bill Ball sponsored a crawfish boil at the end of the Spring game. That is a commitment worth making.

Donate money to Bennett's summer football camps. A chance to get kids in to see the campus, Dallas and meet the coaches is a real plus.

There are other opportunities available to many people. I care not to complain anymore. It is unproductive and doesn't improve next years chances one bit. I choose to identify areas where I can contribute to improve SMU football.

Bless your soul, Ponyte. You have nailed it. The time to start helping with the turnaround is now. The best place is to work with the Mustang Club. The Morgan Campaign will begin in early 2004. It will come as no surprise that it will be a tough sell. But for those who REALLY, REALLY love SMU and truly belive that we have the pieces in place to right the ship, we have a place for you in the Mustang Club. Jim Copeland and Dr. Turner listen, they really do. They want to win championships as much as we do. There has been much progress in terms of recruiting and admissions policies, programs and recruiting funding. This season has been tough on everyone, but besides jumping out of the stands and trying to cover that freekin' Rice receiver (which I wanted to do), the Mustang Club is the right place to put our efforts and energy.

Go ahead and take your shots, gentlemen. You know, all the big cigar crap. My term as mclubprez ends next Feb. I have enjoyed every minute of working with great people such as Jim Copeland, Gerald Turner, Woody Norris and all the coaches. I am going to take over the fund drive this next year...so you know damn well that I am committed. How about you? Are we gonna help this thing get better or cut and run?

It is very nice to log on these past few times... and see some positive messages being posted. Maybe this is a good sign of a new erra for the Mustangs. I know there is one game left this season, and it's gonna be ONE HECK of a game. Let's go out with character..... wheither we're winning (?) or losing (!). I hope all the fans CHEERS & make alot of NOISE to show their support for the team in this last game!!!! Good luck TO ALL OF THE MUSTANGS and COACHES! :thumbupcool:
