I read the other day that per Hawaii law, UH is required to post the job listing for a minimum of 10 days before they can hire anyone. That time frame doesn't work well for either of us--I don't think McMackin will come until he knows he doesn't get the head job there.
I'm obviously talking out of my [deleted] on this, but I would think they would go in another direction. Especially considering all the negative publicity they just got, I think they will want a bigger name coach. Although, does anyone know who is doing the hiring? Is it the interim AD, or are they going to hire an AD quickly and let him make the hire? That might make a BIG difference in who they go after.
Hawaii has the Clapp or will have the Clapp very soon as their new AD.

Jones invited all of his assistants to join him at SMU.
Defensive coordinator Greg McMackin, quarterbacks coach
Dan Morrison and running backs coach Wes Suan have taken
him up on it so far.

McMackin hasn't decided to take Junes up on his offer to join him at SMU just yet as he is still a possible replacement for Jones at HC at Hawaii. Seems like its a 3 horse race b/w Duane Akina, [deleted] Tomey, and McMackin.
Back off Warchild seriously.

That was just a report for the local TV station. See Jones returns to the Island thread.

I know that it would be a long-shot, if McMacklin says, no, but what about Miami DC (now fired) Dom Capers. Given his Houston Texans stint, his name would be known to recruits.

My dad told me that story, thats pretty funny
I think Jerry's done that at every stop. He used to do that when he was with Houston, Atlanta, et al.
Geez, and I had to tell my dad that story - Its tough getting old.
An even better story with an SMU connection. When Jack Pardee (of Cougar High 95 - SMU 21 fame) became HC of the Houston Oilers Glanville was the HC in Atlanta. Pardee's first game was against Glanville's Falcons and Glanville blitzed early and often - forcing 6 or 7 turnovers and several sacks. Atlanta won the game 47-27 with the Falcons either scoring a cheap TD at the end of the game or taking a knee at the goal line instead of punching it in. Glanville dedicated the win to SMU and gave the game ball to Forrest Gregg who was on the ugly end of that mass display of low class that Pardee doled out the season before.

I think JJ will assemble a great staff.
Here are some I would @ least place a phone call to test the waters.
Any of the top HS Head Coaches in the DFW & Houston area, probably 1 from each area.
Someone like Kenny Perry @ Arlington Bowie, Scott Smith @ Rockwall,
John Campbell @ Katy just to name a few.
I would also check in with Guy Morris, recently fired HC @ Baylor.
My #1 choice would be John Blake, considered the top recruiter in the country (see attachment)

Isn't John Blake working for Butch Davis at North Carolina? Might be tough to get unless we get him as DC. I would agree with you though, he would be a pretty good get.

Man, what is wrong with me? My initial reaction to that was--uh oh, we got our big hire, let's not upset the football gods! I guess so many years of losing has really warped me. You're right, can't hurt anything to at least ask him. I'm in! Bring it on Steve-O!
(And I think Blake was the last piece of glue holding the defense together at Nebraska--when he left, Kevin Cosgrove drove them into the toilet.)
