not sure exactly, but i seem to recall his dad was old friends with Tubbs.
As for Doh getting ejected, i like a coach who who'll stand up for his players and team and get a technical from time to time. It usually works alot more effectively at home though. Lots of coaches are masters of changing momentum by getting well timed techs.

maybe it helped to motivate the team. I didn't watch, but the box score looks like we kept pace with them in the 2nd half.

Not exactly costing us the game. Not a big deal.

moral victory? We are not threatening anybody really. We make some half hearted looking runs in games, but never anything sustained to where its a real ballgame. We are doing just enough for just long enough not to get blown out by Colorado and Utep.

agreed, we make alot of what I call "false runs". never appear determined to truly threaten the other team, much less win the game.

And then he crossed swords with Jim Woolridge and left the program before coming here. I've said this before. Personally, I like Dez, but I always sensed falling in line was something that he never did very well.
He was a good player most of his time at SMU but had his limitations. Not a star and I heard he had an attitude problem. Good for him if he is doing well at NT. Do not believe he would have made much difference to the team this year.

I'm ok w/that for now. I really don't give a rats butt about this season. If Doh is determined to start from scratch, and write off seasons, I'm game this year. Next year, no losses to SC Upsate, Centenary etc.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones

thats really all i am worried about. I want to see some things that really make me think we will be much more competitive next season. by that I only mean an average middle of the pack team, but looks the part and plays close games every night in CUSA and wins its share. right now I am worried that we have at least another year of cellar dwelling.

If a team primarily made up of true freshmen is having major problems with the coach......it can't be a sign of good things to come!
Do you sit around and think this crap up, or does it come to you naturally?

Doherty has now been around long enough that players should know what they're getting into with him. He has the rep of being one tough SOB. So is Bobby Knight. I've Gary Williams is not the nicest guy to play for. I remember watching many games of his at UNC on TV. He wasn't the best player on the floor, but he might have been one of the toughest. That's the type of player that Smith loved. So, that's his personality. We may lose a few players. Knight loses a few now and then, but the guy knows what it takes to win. I suspect that given time with these guys, Doherty will build a winning team which is ruthless, tough and takes no prisoners. Right now we're standing in the middle of a sausage factory. It's gross and disgusting, but the end result is pretty good eating.
