So you think it is ok if the trend of fewer people for each home game continues as long as we sell out the opener? Whenever Tech is our opener we have either sold out or been close. Apparently you are not one of the ones that shows up for the last game where you have to whisper or you will be disturb the players on the sideline. I am for growing the program, not just making a one day in time splash, and I bet Mr. Ford, Mr. Orsini, et al believe the same. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Is the first game still over Labor Day weekend? We always had trouble getting people to that game. Too many students out of town. (Of course, at that point, we were playing at the Cotton Bowl and even if we were playing TTU, it still wouldn't have been a sellout.)
When I was at SMU (02-06) I think we usually had our first home football game double as "Parents Weekend". Not sure on that but I believe so.
Back off Warchild seriously.
This is the thinking that needs to change. Labor Day weekend? The biggest attraction on Labor Day weekend should be the football game. I know, it has been the last-ditch choice - in the past. You will see a sellout crowd at DKR-Memorial Stadium on THANKSGIVING DAY for UT football... they won't have "trouble" getting people to that game. You are RIGHT about us - I'm just saying now is the time to change that attitude. Stay on campus and enjoy the experience - you've got a whole life of Labor Days ahead.
I tried to buy my season tickets today and they informed me that it will probably be next week before you can buy new season tickets.
I am doing my best to fill the stands.
Texas State has 28,000 students and we have trouble selling out a 15,700 seat stadium, and the students don't have to pay anything to go, the ticket price is covered in their athletic fee. I feel your pain about not having sellouts, and the crouds going down as the season progresses. Texas is on a whole different level than any other university in Texas because of the size of it's program, the size of it's alumni base and the fact that everytime they play they have a chance of winning and do most of the time at home. Even A&M has problems filling the stands sometimes. The ingredient that both the SMU and Texas State programs lack and programs like Texas has is winning at home almost all of the time. People want to come see a winner, period.
I know not a single game sold out last year . . . had to be either TCU in 05 or Kansas!
Sports, and all that implies.
Guys.. when is the first home game, I am out of state but plan on attending?
Mustang 08- its gonna be GREAT
Mustang 09- everything is going to be FINE Mustang 10- let the Championship talk BEGIN Mustang 11- it rhymes with HEAVEN Mustang 12- put the trophies on the SHELVES
That's because TSU-SM is a 'suitcase school'!!! The student body leaves on the weekend to go home to either Houston or Dallas to see Mommy & Daddy or they go to Austin or College Station to visit girlfriend/boyfriend and attend either a Longhorn or an Aggie football game. The remaining students may attend a game at Bobcat Stadium along with the 'locals' in San Marcos.
