That is my favorite part as well, but I am kid a heart. Please don't blow a foghorn like TCU or that awful thing like Memphis does. That's cheesy, IMO.
I hate that stupid horn. We can hear it from our house.

I really thought the catch-the-turf-on-fire pregame show was entertaining before the Navy game in 2002.

I HATE the University of Texas!

Here are a couple things that come to mind
1. The Sound System needs to be louder with some changes in the music selection
2. Since we will be scoring often, there needs to be something a little more exciting than just the lame TD logo they put up on the screen. We need a new Post TD tradition
3. Overall management of the Jumbotron during games
4. Give away free shirts and other stuff like that
Anyone have any suggestions???
All great suggestions, and probably covers most of what I can think of at this point. One thing that a buddy of mine pointed out is that stupid Pluckers wing race, they showed the exact same one at every game. The sound system needs to be changed up, too, to get rid of the massive echo. They brought in big speakers for the first couple games last year, and put them in the end zone. It sounded much better, but it wasn't very aesthetically pleasing, and they had way too loud. The overall game "program" if you will is a bit choppy and not that polished. The music choices, Jumbotron highlights, etc. just needs to be smoother to provide a better in-game experience.
These are all good suggestions... I have brought friends from outside the SMU community to games and they would comment how it felt like they were at a crappy high school game. (Maybe even borderline Pop Warner) Does anyone know the proper contact that might have the authority to implement these ideas???

If we are going to go the cannon/horn route, lets at least get something unique, not the same thing everyone else has.

The worst EVER at Ford..
Playing Mission Impossible Theme as SMU entered the stadium after half vs Texas Tech.. NO.. I'm NOT KiDDING.. IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

the biggest problem we have, IMO, is the lack of any decent chants. There is no interaction between the fans. At Texas, half the stadium screams TEXAS and the other half screams FIGHT. They also have a fight song that gets the fans involved with chants at the end.
At OU, it's BOOMER and SOONER; they also have the O-U-clap-clap chant that gets the crowd into it.
We have virtually nothing other than a weak S-M-U that is decent maybe once per game.
Until the alumni can be convinced that it's actually cool and surprisingly fun to actually cheer at a game, I don't know what can be done. The "we're too proper to yell, stand, or clap" attitude is really a downer.

Good point Pweesey. We do need more fan involvement.
And to add to my previous point about in-game entertainment, go check out a Mavs game. Everything from cheerleaders, to the jumbotron highlights, to throwing out t-shirts, etc. all seems to be choreographed and comes off very smooth. It's a little over the top for your hard-core sports fan, but for the casual fan, it keeps them involved (read: short attention span).

They better be getting Peruna into the best shape of his life because we will be scoring quite a few points!

It would be nice if the "cheerleaders" actually did some "cheers". We need to get Roy Bailey back on the blow horn leading the crowd again!

BTW, I liked the speakers in the endzone the first game. At least I could hear my friends talk instead of having to put cotton in my ears to keep my eardrums intact!

The band still does the rodeo cheer. They end all sporting performances with Shanty Town, Varsity, Waring Ending then rodeo.
Looks like you are one of those that always leaves early.
Just send 'da money.

Actually I think first we need fans to come to a game and then we can work on getting them to chant.

Or it could be that he simply doesn't pay attention to the band. Sorry to say, it is a common problem.
