maybe I will hold off on the SMU sweat shirt for now :) I still love Hawaii, but we dropped the ball big time. The Hawaii fans wants heads to roll right now, I'm just doing what JJ is doing, I believe in this team (SMU) and the community have waited patiently too long. It's time for a new challenge, it's time to make new friends, it's time to dream again. JJ did what he said he was going to do at Hawaii. At this day and age no one ever delivers, so if he thinks SMU is worth it, I will back him up. Besides I want to be known as a SMU fan when the Mustangs start winning again.

It's posted on one of these threads. I didn't attend SMU either but got caught up in it as a kid and stayed with it. It's been from the highest highs to the lowest lows. To me, the biggest victory will not be when SMU gets to a BCS game, and with JJ they will, sooner rather than later. The biggest win/game/moment will be when U. of Texas plays SMU, and SMU blows them away. There is no evil more than UT, in their complicity with the SMU disaster. I guess when you mess with Texas they will get even. That day will come. Anyway it goes something like North Texas St. TT, TCU, Navy and then several CUSA schools. I don't think several of the original or long time posters on this board had any idea how many people across this country care about SMU and have tried to follow them. I think they are finding out that SMU is very much a national team.

Thank you for all that information. I have witnessed first hand what JJ is capable of doing. Hawaii's version of Texas is BYU. I believe it was JJ's 3 rd year and we never win when it comes to BYU. We we're all amped and excited because the Hawaii players we're finally grasping the offense and BYU was undefeated (8-0) and was nationally ranked 7th in the AP. Hawaii chose to kick-off after the toin coss, and low and behold JJ calls a onside kick! Hawaii recovered and the pure energy at the stadium and the precise play calling made that game one of the best football games I ever seen, on TV or in person. we beat them bad, killed their dream season and hung over 70 points on them...all with a back-up quarterback! I will certainly miss JJ in Hawaii, I'm kinda bummed. But it's SMU's time to return to glory!

You have not seen scoring until you see JJ's office - hold on for a great ride!

That's funny! considering that his 'office' at Hawaii was one of the reasons for his departure...same carpet as the previous coach had, etc. Hey, homewrecker...welcome to the board...! Glad to have you as an SMU fan!

Homewrecker, that's a great story about the BYU game. It's interesting that BYU stabbed you in the back by ruining the WAC similar to what Texas did to SMU and TCU by destroying the SWC.

I am also a Hawaii fan who will enjoy watching the progress of the Mustangs. I love the run-and-shoot that June has developed and I think you will be pleased with the change.

I also remain a fully committed Warrior fan ... which I hope you all can appreciate. The UH will be best served by keeping the June Jones departure in the minds of the power brokers in the university and legislature. I have come to view June departure as the best way to shock the Hawaii system into understanding what is actually needed.

That said ... I think the key thing you will need to understand about June is that he is that he expects things to just happen at times. I doubt this will be a problem for SMU fans ... since you guys understand what it takes to support big time football. The fans on the islands just never got there with June ... many still don't understand why a 5-5 quarterback just isn't going to be good enough to replace Colt Brennan or why a dirt field isn't good enough for practice. Not really their fault (given distance from mainland), but that naivety (and resulting inaction) is what killed June's fire for Warriors.

SMU is getting a good coach, and as I said, I will enjoy watching his system work with the Mustangs.

Just my opinion.

Keith
So good luck.

SMU seems to have the same problem with BYU. Must be the tablets. UT is far worse than BYU. UT is kinda like the Dallas Cowboys x 10. I'm sure you know that story. The big problem I have with UT is not that they win. They have more $ than SMU. The problem is that when SMU started beating UT they poured more gas on the fire, probably started it, while they were doing the same thing. If you can't win on the field then find another way. They found it. If you are in Texas, You are not allowed to beat UT. Thats the rule. They are bigger in Texas than the Cowboys. You have seen how they act. (BOTH) If SMU did not win one game, and beat UT then everything is worth it. If you want validation, go to Google SMU, get to that site, then punch in 1980-1985 then vidios (it's under others then vidios) Thanks RVG. ASU used to be in the WAC. They had to pull themselves up. I can only hope SMU has a mature team when the deed is done.

Wow theres a lot about UT I didn't know. Now I'm excited! Hope SMU get's to play'em this year or soon. I'm telling you JJ loves to kill our arch nemisis! Usually I would cringe when Hawaii played BYU. When JJ got there my fears we're gone! You will experiece what I have for the past 9 years, and I'm still here for the ride!

BTW, I'm still a loyal Hawaii Warrior fan - till I die. Although I was saddened when JJ left Hawaii, we needed a big wake-up call - I believed he sacrificed so much for Hawaii, he did all he can. Knowing JJ is gonna have the support he deserves, the facilities, also the way SMU people embraced him- (reminded me about a little school in the Pacific that needed his exact help :)

Every weekend when I was living in Hawaii I would see him @ California Pizza Kitchen at Kahala Mall with his son, he always requested my room-mate to be his waiter, and once in while I'll be there with my girlfriend and he would show up with his kid and had the biggest smile for everyone. Maybe it's because my girlfriend is pretty, or something :) Anyhow he always had time to shoot the breeze, eventhough I only said a handful of things to him. I never spoke about football....I was too scared!
