Do any of you remember a few years, I think it was against Nevada, when a group of students put a message on the top of the stadium in tape that said "E.D. SUCKS"?
Apparently he rebuilt them. ++++++++ grammar.

ED did not burn any bridges....SMU burnt the bridges with the students and alumni for a lack of commitment.

Oh My God. My thought train wasn't working. Eric Dickerson was mentioned by JJ as a contact. The only FB player he mentioned. Grammar is wrong, but promise to try. Ok. Hey, I went to SFSU, do you want miracles.
San Francisco State University?
Yes.

Didn't SMU thank ED enough when they gave him a salary to play football while in college?

Did Eric Dickerson say 1/10th the bad things about his alma mater than June Jones said about his(Hawaii) in recent weeks? I assume both parties made their comments in the hopes that real changes would be made at their alma maters that were long overdue.

very good point. for all of the crap we give ED and CJ about disrespecting their alma mater, what did they really have to cheer about?? they seemed to be just as frustarted as every other SMU fan over the last 20 years. probably more, having helped build that 80's dynasty. i do not fault them for speaking out in hopes that things would change.
and CJ is always referred to as "PONY" by most of the ESPN crew (mark may, corso, etc.) i love that.

That was a Viagra ad.
I saw that coming. I had bets going on here in the office about how long it would take for a response like that.

Don't get me wrong, Dickerson has a HUGE name to attach to the program. It would be great if he took a more active role and had some involvement with the program.
My point is that he hasn't lifted a finger in the past to help turn this around. Yes, he was here this season for the anniversary team, but he has refused to come to the campus without a first class plane ticket and cash for an appearance. Then he went to bash the school on national tv time and time again when Jamal Lewis was reaching his single season rushing record in the NFL.
I am willing to let bygones be bygones. From the posts in this thread, apparently more people are as well. But, how many others will do the same?

Has anyone ever thought that perhaps, just perhaps, Dickerson and James were asked to stay away from the program by certain people that are no longer around? HMMMMMMMMMMM. Do not cast unwarranted aspersions about people when you know nothing of the circumstances involved. And that is all I will say about that.

Let's be clear about one thing: Eric Dickerson feel guilty? Hah! That's a good one.
I remember when Dickerson showed up on campus for the first time since the DP. It was to try to sway the coach at the time, I believe it was Rossley or Cavan, to give a scholarship to his no-talent nephew. As far as I know, Dickerson didn't come back again until his jersey was retired.
Most of the criticism I've heard from [deleted] about SMU sounded like any typical frustrated alum. He was used to SMU being a legit, top-25 program, playing in a premier conference. It's probably embarrassing to him when he gets around his NFL buddies who went to big-time programs. Of course, instead of doing anything about it, he chose to sit back and snipe.
Sure, myrdel, there may have been some SMU tight-ass at some point who told him to stay away. I think it's pretty obvious that he and any other former jock is welcome now. If he wants to hold a grudge about something some Ken Pye autobot said 20 years ago, that's his problem.
Not all ex-jocks are the same. Some of them are truly interested in the welfare of their alma mater. There are others, I've found, who only want to be further glorified and to get free tickets whenever they want.

so what has he said negative about the program and when? What has he said that was any different from what we have all said for the past 20 years.

I appreciate any SMU love from ED. He's a hall of famer and for the most part he has expressed his apprecition for SMU minus the trash talk about football. But everybody on this board has expressed similar frustations regarding football.
While he may be one of the reasons SMU got the DP, SMU wasn't doing anything different than most of the SWC schools were doing at the time...SMU's only fault was that it got caught...That doesn't make it right but the situation/history must be evaluated in context...IMO.

It sure doesn't hurt, to have the most notable name in SMU football ( that's still alive) speaking well of his school.
