USM bandDid anyone else who watched the game last night notice that the USM band bascially sat on their hands most the night? Even when they were doing really well, they would show a shot of the band, and everybody except the drums seemed to be sitting down and talking with their neighbor. I know the policy of the SMU band is to stand until you get back to your place of residence, but lets hope they will be even more spirited and into the game this week, to show up the high school band coming from Ft. Worth, and all those silly TCU fans.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.

Re: USM bandplumes=geeky bad high school band
It is a very simple formula with no exceptions.
Re: USM bandunfortunatly, tcu's band will not be in attendance next week, as they have used their bus funds to attend (and march) at the Rio Grande Valley Middle School Winter Jamboree First name \"Mister\"

Re: USM bandActually, TCU's band IS going to be at the game. In fact, we're having to play a shorter halftime show so that they can do something out there.
Well, at least we know the Mustangs will win the halftime battle next Saturday, if nothing else, right? Don't worry, we'll be watching BOTH games against TCU next week, just in case we manage to go 2-0 against them this year in the major sports. Man, that'd be so great. "...and right to the end we'll stand..."
Re: USM bandYes, they'll show up looking cool and stylish like this Purple Pimp right here. Can we say Suave?

Re: USM bandI was telling god to help TCU with their uniform picking!! cause boy are they UGGGGGGGGGLY! ![]()
Re: USM bandMust just be completely and utterly sad that the only thing you can come up with is to dis the TCU band. Boy, I guess if you think our band uniforms are ugly that really puts us in our place. I'm crushed... oh no, wait, that will be your football team next Saturday.
Uniform style or not, at least we don't have to put up with that blatting noise machine of yours that thinks volume = quality. Guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, huh?
Re: USM bandThis is so lame. I hate TCU with a passion, but they do the whole competitive marching thing, and they do it well. The only other band I've seen pull it off this year has been UTEP, and I'll be impressed if TCU beats them out because it was making me dance.
We're two completely different kinds of bands. One is geared to music majors using precision marching, curvilinears, and musicality. This is a rash generalization, but they are there to play first and support second. The Mustang Band is there to support first, and play second. Of course, we want to sound and look good, but we also don't want to bore a college crowd with doing aforementioned stuff. This is like trying to compare us with Rice last week because it is not possible! They do what they do well, and we do what we do well. They've been working on the same show all year, while we're resurrecting one from a month ago. It's an alright show, not one of the best we've played all season, but oh well... NEEDLESS to say, we have different reasons for playing than they do, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. And if you REALLY want to see some ugly uniforms, check at Oregon University's new ones! GAG ME! Oh you gotta love it. The horns, the drums, the noise! It's all for the love of music, for the love of the game.
Re: USM bandWe did see tcu's band win one halftime - @ the All Saints Episcopal HS halftime. They won it hands down.
Long live Thomas Sowell!
Re: USM bandI don't know what's worse...someone ragging on TCU's precious band or someone moanin' and cryin' because we're raggin on their precious band? I could care less about putting a bunch of TCU music school nerds in their place. I just can't help but take shots at that band, it's in my nature. While Barb Ann is right in that it's comparing apples to oranges, I'd rather be in a band that's fun to be in and is active in the spirit portion of the game rather than some supersized HS clone of a college band that rather go play for a bunch of High Schoolers in San Antonio than go to Houston and support the team. The only thing that's been crushed as of late actually happened earlier this week when some team down in Mississippi put an end to that dream that TCU had called a BCS Bowl. As for that so called "blatting noise machine" that you refer to as the Mustang Band, I'd rather take a group of 70 some odd people playing their cojones off to some catchy songs and being entertaining than a group of 120 some odd people plus a lame [deleted] flag corps walking around to some lame Andrew Lloyd Webber song. While one would think a band with more people would be heard that doesn't seem to happen with TCU. The only thing you hear coming from their group are the flutes, clarinets and the flag corps stomping their hooves on the field. That would most likely explain why you think 70 some odd people is a "noise machine." With that said, I am proud to say that I was a member of the Mustang Band and would take my time with that band any day over being in the TCU Horned Drone Band. [ 11-22-2003, 09:34 AM: Message edited by: Peruna_Ate_My_Rolex ]
Re: USM bandAdoptedFrog, the only reason you think it's pathetic to compare bands is because it's a comparison TCU can't win. Did you know that TCU's athletic director actually came to an SMU game to videotape us last year, because your basketball band guys didn't know what the heck they were doing and he wanted to show them what a good band looked like?
The Mustang Band blows the FWHS Frog Band out of the water. Every year. I mean, hey, they're decent enough at what they do, I suppose, but what they do is lame. High school contests are for high schools. College bands should be more concerned about the team and its fans than playing Mahler or Brahms, which the average football fan cares nothing about. And they only do, what, one show a year? Maybe two? That is pathetic. Been there, done that, got the high school band T-shirts. "...and right to the end we'll stand..."
