Since coaching search is over, let's offer some DC thoughts.

I will preface this by saying that I trust JJ in selecting a quality DC. But since the traffic is down and we all had so much fun guessing who the HC would be, i'd like to hear who PONYFANS think should be hired as DC.

IMHO, I like former U of Cincinnati head coach Rick Minter. He just interviewd at Marshall (and btw, PB interviews there Thurs). Born and raised in Texarkana (TEXAS TIES!!), he was a DC at Notre Dame and South Carolina as well. Cincy went to SIX bowl games during his tenure.

any others??

This is too pie in the sky, but David Gibbs is a great DC. Last I heard, he was a defensive coach for the KC Chiefs has bounced between DC positions at Minnesota and Auburn. Great young coach. Very bright. Recruited Texas heavily for Minnesota.

Don't know if there is any connection between Jones and more likely David's father Alex, who was OL coach for the Broncos.

Gary Darnell from A&M. Has both State ties and SMU history.

No on Darnell. He was awful at Texas and A&M. Surely we can find someone better than him.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Duane Akina from UT? Not a popular choice for head coach, but with Will Muschamp in as the new Longhorn DC, Akina may be interested in a move. Great record grooming defensive backs, and should have some recruting inroads...

Wasn't our last OC a "former" U of Cincinnati coach?

Jerry Gray would be terrific. DC in NFL with Buffalo, past season defensive backs coach with Redskins. Previous SMU coach. Texas ties. Terrific person.
