Parking for Basketball GamesAs I am sure others encoutnered, parking was a huge headache last night. I guess every Freshman got a new car for Christmas and is now parking in the garage. As was suggested on this board, I emailed the ticket office and here is the response...
"I apologize for the awful parking last night – we are getting questions about it today. Though it is a good problem to have, here is my suggestion. Dedman lot is on the other side of the Workout Center. (added - "We are looking in to having that gate open for the games") If you are coming from Mockingbird, turn right at Airline Road and it will be the first parking lot on your right. The other option is the Meadows Parking Garage, off of Bishop Boulevard, and Westcott lot (where you would park for a soccer game). You will have to walk a little future, but there will be parking spaces and you will avoid the line to get out of Moody garage. " I think Meadows might end up being the easiest and most "sure thing" choice for parking.
I usually have luck snatching a spot on the street between boaz and the natatorium/bandhall and also east of boaz adjacent to where there used to be engineering labs. Usually one or two spots open when you drive through.
Just received a follow-up call from SMU ticket office to apologize for the parking problems. This is something that would not have happened under Copeland. I think this regime and the people in place are much more receptive to constructive criticism.
The new garage is tentatively scheduled for opening in March and will have 855 new parking spaces. In the meantime, may I suggest that you get to Moody earlier or park further away (yes, I realize it is a farther walk but most of you have that ability).
The main reason for the parking problems is because students and faculty do not have to move their cars for basketball games. Also, night students need a place to park to attend their classes.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why the north-east corner of the new parking garage has the corner missing with two trees remaining? I'm all for retaining trees, but this wasn't done anywhere else around the garage and you could probably get a nice extra chunk of parking spots simply moving those trees and making the garage completely rectangular.
Weren't those trees saplings from the Treaty Oak?
I don't mind walking, so much as the cold. it was downright chilly last night. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Are you referring to the Treaty Oak in Austin? I've never heard of saplings from that tree being planted at SMU. These would have been in front of the lambda chi house, is there some connection between them and the Treaty Oak?
We'll put Frank Lloyd on it... form follows function.
Thats [deleted]. Where would Rugby practice and where would Pike win intramurals at?
At the end of the day, you really need to soften the landscape around campus...Too many buildings and not enough trees will make us look like an inner city school (especially on a highly traveled corner)...I'm all about keeping big mature trees around to sacrific maybe 50 spots...Besides, the combination of the two garages should give us ample room for parking... Most importantly, who cares about the students and their parking issues, let them suffer the way I did... ![]() Do the elevators even work in the garage anymore???They shut them down (when I went there) when too many people were emptying their bladders on the ride down...
I second this....it was a rare day when you didn't have to hold your breath.... Greg Kinzer
