Reading the Hawaii boards and press on this guy is fascinating. They used to talk about this guy like he is the schiznit. They nicknamed him the "Sun God." Now, they are ripping and saying he was a fraud. But the story from Tsai in the Honolulu Advertiser doesn't make sense. He says:

The thing with jeff Reinbold is this, and I agree with you and most in general that he IS a good guy. Bit strange with all the Sungod stuff and Hawaiian wanna-be, but a genuine nice guy.

See, many around the program believed him to be a "headline chaser", looking for nothing but glory and attention. I mean he IS a great quote for the print media, and sometimes DID make entertaining TV, but it wasn't all appreciated by his peers, infact, moe often frowned upon.

He DID get credit for recruiting, but some it was un-warranted. I mean another coach would make first contact, get tapes sent, get background checks etc., and JR, would be the one to release it first to members of the media, therefore getting credit, and sometimes for leg-work he did NOT do.

That grew old real fast.

Wait, so JR was releasing commitments' names to the media in order to take credit for them? First, isn't that a NCAA Rules violation? Nobody thought to bring that up? Second, you keep hearing things from players at the last signing day that said JR was the reason they committed to UH.

I don't know who they want to give credit for recruiting the players on the team to, but it has to be somebody. It can't be McMackin because he left Hawaii in 1999 and he wasn't hired to be DC at Hawaii again until March 2007, well after signing day.

Sounds to me like JR is the recruiting "closer" to me.

If he stayed, they would praised him. It's just the attitude of losing the guy and trashing him. I'm sure there are some people over there who are still having a hard with this.

Blog when we getting a new entry???

As far as Reinebold...he is the most important coach coming with JJ in my opinion. Like Blog says, most recruits point to him as the guy that sealed the deal. Also as the recruiting coordinator it is your job to get everyone goign the right place but not necessarily make the first approach. He just needs to tee the recruit up so when JJ has his inhome...game over

Maybe JJ and Reinebold are the only coaches that drank coffee at UH, because "COFFEE IS FOR CLOSERS".

Are you kidding? There's a guy walking around campus that people call the Sun God? Maybe he'll get the players started off with some delicious Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls.
