Is this guy worth getting excited about?

Anyone have any ideas who would be our defensive coordinator(if McMackin takes the HC job at UH)? I think that's the most important hire right now.

Who has JJ coached with in the past? Are there any ties or great WAC DC's he has gone against? I think JJ would know very well who has schemed against him well. I' sure most WAC DC's would be making less than SMU is offering.

JJ complained for YEARS about the assistant coach salaries. In 2006 he even offered to drop his salary by $200k so that they could hire Mouse Davis and Dennis McKnight. About a month ago boosters raised $100k as a "thank you" to JJ for the season, and he gave all of that money to his assistant coaches.

UH had no offensive coordinator because JJ had that role. McMackin made just $110k as defensive coordinator, and gave $20,000 of that to Reinbold because Reinbold came in 2nd for the DC spot.

Defensive coordinator Greg McMackin is UH's highest-paid assistant, earning $110,000 annually. McMackin gave $20,000 of his salary to Jeff Reinebold when he accepted the job last April.
Three UH assistant coaches make as low as $70,000 annually.

I would imagine that JJ would hire Phil Bennett since he is still available:!: ()

Clay Jennings who was rumored to be a possible SMU Assistant above is interviewing with TCU to replace the one they lost to A&M last week.

I had the opportunity to talk with McKnight in his office yesterday and man what a hire in my opinion. Dang good o-line coach who admits one of his strong points is getting the kids all lathered up. Something that SMU deperately needs. I wanted to play after visiting with him. I am getting very excited already and I don't care if its early.

Yeah, I'm well aware of it, I wrote that a week ago.
