It's not tone. It specifically says that Jones had to convince Orsini that he could get the job done and be successful here.

Yes, that's my point. The title of the article -- and the topic of much national discussion about the hire -- asks how did SMU lure Jones. But the words of the article show Jones trying to convince SMU to let him come here. That's not SMU luring, that's SMU being lured.

If SMU had to be conviced, more power to JJ. That proves to me that he DOES want to be here, and he CAN and WILL win games here. Before this hire (or I guess you could say before Orsini's hire), SMU obviously lacked the ability the hire a competent coach.
