This, of course, has nothing to do with SMU itself but I found this article on ESPN.COM and it just goes to show that some people will stick with their school, no matter what.

Re: Talk about a loyal fanThat is a terrific article. A must-read, in my book.
Let's take an informal poll, for fun. I'm curious who is the most DIE HARD Mustang supporter on this board. How many SMU football games have you attended, in person, in your lifetime? Ballpark figures are OK for you oldtimers. I've only been to 16 games, some home, some away (keep in mind, I was at SMU from '86-'90, and I live in NY. Cut me some slack.). ![]() [ 11-26-2003, 12:13 PM: Message edited by: KnuckleStang ]
Re: Talk about a loyal fanI count 106 +/- to be the number of Pony games I have attended over the past 42 years. I grew up in Fort Worth as a TCU fan. My excuse was that my father was a TCU alumnus. The first SMU game I went to was in 1961 - a 28 to 28 tie with the Frogs. I attended SMU between 1967 and 1971. Graduate school on the Hilltop in 1974 and 1975. Lived out of state for several years. But returned to the Dallas area in 1991. I live in Bedford. I have missed only one home game since then. I have made some away games, like LaTech and Utep. Season tickets in men's and women's basketball. A few soccer games each year. Daughter graduated from SMU last year. Son in high school plans to be a Mustang. (Confession: wife is a UNT grad.)

Re: Talk about a loyal fanEvery home game since 2000 opener and a handful of aways, both with the band and on my own.
We'll see how I do when I become Alum. Which will hopefully happen sometime in the next decade The Spaz WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?!?!
Re: Talk about a loyal fanEvery home game since 1989, plus almost a dozen roadies. Including Houstin in 1989, I'm afraid. And I'll keep going to every game I can as long as I'm in driving distance (and I don't see myself moving any time soon....)
Re: Talk about a loyal fan10 game average during school - 7 game average since graduation - puts the estimate at about 180 - wow, never stopped to think about it - I need a life.
Re: Talk about a loyal fanBeen to mostly every home game since 93 and I go to the away games when I can aka Baylor/Louisana Tech
Missed the UTEP and Tulsa game last year due to Longview's playoff game and missed the SMU vs Oklahoma State game this year due to Longview vs Evangle at Independence Staduim and also the SMU vs Rice game due to Longview's playoff game lol besides that been to everyone! GO MUSTANGS! [ 11-26-2003, 08:35 PM: Message edited by: Mustangs35SMU ] ![]()
Re: Talk about a loyal fanAttended my first SMU game at the age of 1 in 1958. Attended almost every home game in the Cotton Bowl and Texas Stadium between 1963-1976. Went to some 'away' games at UT, Baylor, TAMU and Arkansas in that time, too. Also attended several games in the re-vamped Ownby Stadium and almost every home game since Ford Stadium opened. Also attended 'away' games in Lubbock and Waco this year. I'm sure there are others on this board who have attended more games than me. However, I doubt there are any non-alumni, like me, who can equal the number of games I've seen over the years.
