If he were to take smear SMU approach to recruiting, even in a backhanded compliment sort of way, it could negatively impact us. If he goes NFL, we have nothing to worry about.

Come on. Phil has too much class for that.

Phil began trashing the program during his press conference after he was told he wasn't coming back. It is what he does. He's a pro. He'd make a hell of a used car salesman. To suggest he is too classy for that is just plain ignoring the fact that he had little problen trashing his predecesor and his predecesor's recruits. He loves diminishing things; he just tries to do it in ways that you want to hear.

I was being somewhat facetious, but I don't think bashing SMU while recruiting would be classless. He could talk about his experiences at SMU in a way like "they have no committment to winning" "we had very low attendence", "you would not fit in with the rich white student body" etc etc in ways that would discourage a recruit but aren't 'classless' in my opinion.

Wonder if any recruits would ask him how much football he remembers?

If I recall, that is Herb Tarleck's coat that Oscar is wearing.

Not quite. Rather than haunting or taking over a corpse, Oscar is more of the Grim Reaper sort, predicting the demise of anyone with whom he associates.

I think words "class" and "integrity" are being debased a bit when being used to refer to Phil Bennett, and I almost feel compelled to stand up for them for once! How about "appears to be a pleasant guy" or "tried real hard in a difficult situation, but smiled and said optimistic things the entire time" instead? Exemplifying excellence, best of the best, honest and reliable...I think these synonyms are a stretch.

I think one of Oscar with PonySnot would be better.

In the honesty of full disclosure, I remembered that because you told us, not from watching WKRP (which I used to religiously).
