QB Kevin Craft May Be Visiting With Hawaii Coachaccording to a post on the Hawaii board. I do know that MacMakin is presently in California on a rare, welll publicized recruiting visit in the state. So it makes some sense.
McMackin as well as OC Ron Lee are both out recruiting for a QB and WR's. Rumor has it they were also going to look at a QB who was under the radar. Regarding Craft, one of his hangups seems to be the amount of playing time and being able to play right away. That isn't a guarantee at either SMU or Hawaii since both JJ and McMackin are leaving the position at their respective schools wide open for competition which could be why Craft has remained undecided. I guess he wanted to talk to UH before making a decision.
The edge IMHO would still be in SMU's favor since both Craft and his father were literally in JJ's back pocket and he'll probably have better odds at winning the starting position this fall at SMU where everyone else will be learning the new system compared to Hawaii where Tyler Graunke and the other QB's know the offense and have experience running it (albeit there will be slight modifications with Ron Lee's version of the R&S).
If that's true (and I hope it's not), I could care less if he comes to SMU. I don't want a player that thinks he should be entitled to a starting spot and is not willing to compete for it. How does that help a team?
Playing time is always a consideration. Some kids are just so confident though that they're not worried about competition. If you're the second or third best rb UT is taking in a class, you ought to be worried...
Taking a trip to Hawaii would be fun for a kid even if you might not go there. UH can now grant more trips as they have free airfare. Not the end of the world.

Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
SMU can't be that attractive an option to Craft despite us having JJ. As he will be coming in the summer now, he will miss spring ball. So slim chances that he would unseat Jwill as the starter is even less.
So he RS this year and sits next year, getting to start for one season. Of course at that point, Braden Smith, Logan Turner, Zach Rhodes, Bo Levi or any other big name QB recruit that JJ can bring in, might already have staked a claim. I would love to get Craft in here, but if I was his friend, I would tell him to look elsewhere
QB
I had the same thought. However, some have said that JJ's offense really needs two QB's. I do not know if this would translate into Craft getting as much playing time as he might want assuming he did not beat Willis out for the starting position.
Colorado State after Craft too!Apparently, new Colorado State coach said he was going to go after Craft. I agree with most of the comments on this board about Craft's chance to start at SMU. But, if JJ likes Craft as much as he liked Colt, he'll make sure that Craft comes to SMU and he will start even if he misses spring practice.
June is a great coach and players love him, but he's a straight shooter about everything is a competition. He benched Timmy Chang as a senior and he put Colt in after Graunke started at USC as a sophomore. Also, you can expect that he will cut 20-25 guys from the team each spring to bring in new blood. He did that every year at Hawaii ... didn't matter if you were scholarship or not. He always allowed guys to come back after school started in fall ... and a few made it back to even start. Anyway ... Hawaii will push hard for Craft and, if June doesn't fight for him, he will have a better chance to start at least as a senior at UH with Graunke graduating. Personally, I think he can beat Graunke out ... but that's based on how I see Graunke ... solid back up, but not someone you would want to start the entire year since he's a little out of control at times. Well, enough from the Hawaii/SMU fan living in Illinois. Just my opinion. Keith
That's what I was going to say. A lot of guys on here remember the fumbles Willis had last season but forget the positive numbers he's had the last two. Willis threw for 2,944 yards last season, up from 2,047 in 2006. He threw 18 picks but Brennan threw 17. Brennan completed 70.4% of his passes and Willis 58.5%. Im not saying Willis is as good as Brennan but he's pretty darn good. He had a down season last year in terms of turnovers but under June/Run that will hopefully improve(resemble his redshirt freshman year). He had big numbers last season and under this coaching staff I predict even more. Those of you who even hinted at moving him to wideout will look for a warm place to hide next season. IMHO I also say that Craft wouldn't touch the field as QB over the next 2 seasons if Willis stays healthy.
