After reading the many articles about SMU's new hire and hearing JJ speak about coming to SMU and the QB from Katy as well as that kid from Tyler whose committment was not honored, there has been one common theme among them besides football. They've all said how great the academics are at SMU and the opportunities that will be available to them.
While this is all true, and they are Student-Athletes first, this is the first time I've heard so many people talk about the great academics at SMU. While our academics speak for themselves, do you think that cause the athletic dept paid so much that coaches are telling players to praise our academics so the liberal professors don't grumble over the amount of money spent on a football?

No. Historically, recruits to SMU always talk about the academics and getting a great education. We're by no means Harvard. But, we are normally a superior academic institution compared to some of the offers these guys have (North Texas, UTEP, Idaho,etc...).
