I think its more from a standpoint of if PB is recruiting against us in our state he can say what a rinky dink program SMU is and tell them all his horror stories from his time here. If he were to take smear SMU approach to recruiting, even in a backhanded compliment sort of way, it could negatively impact us. If he goes NFL, we have nothing to worry about.

Come on. Phil has too much class for that.

Phil began trashing the program during his press conference after he was told he wasn't coming back. It is what he does. He's a pro. He'd make a hell of a used car salesman. To suggest he is too classy for that is just plain ignoring the fact that he had little problen trashing his predecesor and his predecesor's recruits. He loves diminishing things; he just tries to do it in ways that you want to hear.

He also trashed SMU on the NFL Films Presents, filming on which was completed after he was canned. He reflected on camera about how he wrote on a piece of paper "What Have I Done" after he took the job and how people told him not to take the job because it was a "coaching graveyard." He did all of it in sort of a "Well, I guess they were right" tone.
