I do not know anything about this guy or his reputation. His results as a DC are not good. However, this does not mean he would not make an excellent position coach.

I'm not too concerned-what talent UTEP has had with the scattered exception of Demps and the Thomas Howard kid(graduated 2006) was almost always on the offensive side of the ball. Get him some talent and he has a long resume. Even UTEPs best fans knew they were going to suck on defense this year. They sucked because they had no talent and about 3-4 returning starters. He has 25 years of experience as a DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR(not a position coach) including 4 BCS schools-Coordinated 10 teams that went to Bowls-I think its a step up from the type of Coaches we usually get around here. Fans will always blame the Coaches and QBs when the fact is usually that the players really weren't that good.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that if this guy with this extensive resume is being hired as a defensive assistant and not coordinator, it makes you wonder what the resume of the defensive coordinator is going to be.

I think you guys got yourself a very good coach, especially as a position coach. Now, hopefully we can make a swap, and hire Bennett as our DC.

There are countless examples of good position coaches that didn't perform as DCs. We should be happy with this pickup because the guy has a resume a mile long and has seen it all...dare I say he has forgotten more football than we will ever know.

Is anyone here old enough here to remember the staff we had in place 6 months ago?? It was an incompetent bunch of people made up of Phil's family members and close friends. This has to be an improvement...If it is good enough for June, it should be good enough for everyone here.
