For those who don't realize just how much JJ's offense can lead to open spaces for RBs, this post from another forum summarizes things nicely. Note: "Last year" in this post refers to the 2006 season. After that season the top 2 RBs for UH were drafted by the NFL.

Last year with Ilaoa and Mauia, we rushed more yards per game than Virginia Tech, Miami, Boston College, and Tennessee and we had a good running game in the red zone-- I think that was a great fit for our offense. This year our run production dropped with less experienced running backs and oline and the adjustments favored Colt's short field accuracy and Davone Bess's quickness for yards after catch at the expense of the running game (game planning, and practice time also). Our red zone running game was Colt QB sneak or rolling out and in from inside the five mostly.

He just needs to quit running scared. Ever since he got hurt against UNT, he has been timid when crashing the line. At the same time, he began to show some flashes of is former self in a few of the games last year.

It is quite apparent that a run game can be incredibly effective in the RnS. If you throw the ball that much, the defense HAS TO let up on the line at least a little bit. It would make no sense to prep against the run for a RnS team.

i know Junes is not one to slow down a game, but if you need to control clock, this is just how to do it.

Alex will soon be able to attest to this, but the Boise State game this year is a perfect example of what you said. UH ran the ball down the field to keep it away from Boise State's offense. UH then took a knee at the 1-yard-line to end the game, after running out about the last half of the 4th quarter to protect the lead.
