Another program withdraws a scholie offer - FL
Florida Gators have informed Chaz Sutton today that they will no longer honor their scholarship offer to him.
I hope Urban Liar has some pissed off redkneck coach screaming about Urbie never being welcome in GA.

EDIT: Yes, Dale Hansen IS a huge turd.
Florida withdrew the scholarship from Sutton because his test scores were pretty far off, and they don't do sign and place like many programs do. However, the rivals article said that it looked like South Carolina would sign and place him. Most likely into Hargrave or another prep school. At the same time, I would think that the Florida staff had an idea of this kid's academic troubles all along and shouldn't have waited so long to talk to him about it. Urban Meyer has been catching alot of flak this year for "questionable" recruiting tactics.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.

A+
How is that an A+?
Did you see the Dale Hansen interview? If not, then you wouldn't understand this. Essentially, DH said that "a few friends of mine in Tyler" weren't too thrilled with JJ pulling Ralston Dews scholarship. Given that this post was about 15 minutes after the interview, I awarded an A+ largely based on timing, as well as content.
And because I said so.

The NCAA needs to get off its [deleted] and add an early signing period or the coaches need to regulate this with a code of professional conduct. This is getting out of control. I'm sure they'll get right on that as soon as they get to the 25/85 scholarship limits to make sure they actually mean 25 scholarships per year and 85 on a team. I think it would refreshing if schools that want to dabble in morons would actually have their classes genuinely affected by "taking a chance" on a kid rather than giving 30-35 scholarships and simply discarding the rest who don't make it academically. Make it so you can not even accept a scholarship until you projected to be a full qualifier. What a great rule that would be. It also would tell marginal students they need to get on the stick to get their academics in order.

You have no idea what you are talking about...while I agree that the Dews situation is something the player and Owens should have been aware of, you are naive to think that some sorriness is not involved when SMU had a 70+ day coaching search and they yank a kid's only Division 1 offer three weeks before signing day. I am not saying SMU technically did the wrong thing, but those of you who claim SMU is completely in the right and that Dews or Owens have no reasson to be pissed is unreal. Just look at it objectively and with some common sense and I think you can at least understand where they are coming from.
I know Mike Owens very well. Mike Owens (my high school football coach) is an honorable man and a great coach and is the furthest thing from a redneck I could imagine. So shut up and don't insult people you know absolutely nothing about...again, just look at this issue with some perspective. While SMU was within its rights to revoke the offer and I can totally understand the argument for why they did, I don't think it is a bad thing that a coach stands up for one of his players and doesn't like when he is wronged...and whether you like it or not, there was some wronging done here by SMU...
Let me explain something to you. I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me.

Why didn't this honorable man and great coach help his kid line up an alternative plan when the coach who extended the offer was canned? And especially of it is true (and I don't know if it is) that the athletic department sent out a letter reserving the right of the new coach to withdraw the offer? I mean, it looks bad what sMU did, no doubt. But why did this coach wait until three weeks before signing day to make it known to the world that they had no back-up plan for this kid? If his is as concerned about his kids' welfare as you say, seems he'd have been exploring other options a long time before that.

I think the coach had the right to defend his player, but he looked selective in doing so. It happens too frequently and it's too bad, but to hang up SMU as the poster child for this practice borders on the absurd. Though Coach Owens' position was correct, he came across as a little over the top. I think it's absolutely fair game for others to question whether Coach Owens would have taken the same outspoken position had the school been UT. The answer would of course be no. Let's face it, it's easy for SMU to be the whipping boy though that day will soon change and I hope if Coach Jones conducts himself and his program with integrity that Coach Owens will publicly welcome SMU to recruit on his campus again.
