I agree with those comments. However, the difference here is that Jones's classes in Hawaii were never all world (far from it), yet he managed to have great success there. Why would he not be able to have the same success at SMU?

True statement.
Considering where we were starting from two weeks ago, we have to make do the best we can.
I have a certain amount of confidence in these kids because they appear to be the same kids Jones was going after at Hawaii; they may very well have ended up there had Jones stayed. If recruiting these kids beat Boise State this year, then fine.
Also, I have more confidence in Jones ability to recruit his kids to his offensive system than I have confidence in Bennett to recruit any kid to any offensive system. I think Jones knows what he wants and knows what he needs. Offensively, at least, I don't think you can say the same for Bennett.

Next year I think we will see a better recruiting class. But I think he is doing as well as he can with the limited amount of time and recruits available.

Why are such simple truths overlooked?

It's not that they are being overlooked. I mean, the point that the lag in the coach hiring was going to have a major impact on recruiting used to be a main point of the D&G crowd. But when Jones was hired, there was an alleluja moment around here that Jones would be able to hit the ground running, and he could save this class.
Even with the understanding that there is still a some time left, and knowing that Jones has an effective system that he is recruiting for... I had hoped for more at this point.

I understand some of you have invested so much in the new coach that you can't see your nose from your face and fair evaluation of such players causes you great pain. Wait until your check out the other schools who have offered our boys. It ain't pretty. Hopefully, we can get some good players in the next few weeks. Here's a 5'9 receiver who may have something to say about your quote Stallion http://www.nfl.com/players/weswelker/pr ... =WEL219433
Also I appreciate the information you've given us Stallion and I hope we get higher rated athletes in the future as well.
However, you complainers should hold your peace this recruiting season . The man just got hired. You act as if he should be stealing recruits from UT and AM after only being here for a couple of weeks.
Most of the guys who are hightly rated have already selected a school. IMO June has proven to be a pretty solid talent evaluator. Although you guys know the rivals rankings inside/out I would bet June knows a little more about who has the greatest potential to actually pan out once the hitting starts.
I know that Colt as well as Bess were receiving some attention from BCS schools before getting into trouble but name the other highly recruited players June signed at UH.
You probably can't name many, if any at all. The difference in a poorly rated Jones class and a poorly rated Bennett class is talent evaluation.

I think what we have to realize is the following (some have been mentioned already):
1) June started recruiting very late due to the delay in our hiring
2) June has specifically said over and over again, he is going for speed
3) The top 2 WRs at Hawaii the last couple years are 5'10" and 5'11".
4) We play in CUSA where many players are a little undersized for their position. Had they not been undersized, they probably would be going to a BCS school. To give you an example, the top 5 QBs in our conference are an average 6'2", 202lbs, and that doesn't include Willis.
5) We are fooling ourselves if we think we will be an overnight success and start recruiting 6'4", 225 lb QBs, and 6'5" 330lb offensive lineman. Personally, I think we'd be lucky if we will be able to recruit guys that size in 5 years.
We don't need an entire squad of world beaters and All Americans to be successful with JJ's system and in CUSA. Success breeds success, and I think our classes should get better when we start consistently winning.

You might also want to remember that we have a big recruiting weekend coming up.
Meaning, you may want to wait to grade the movie until you've seen the second reel.

I wonder how many spots really remain, as opposed to those that are filled and just not yet announced.
Any word on who's coming in?

Could be as many as half of these redshirted or I'd rather call them Scout team members...Some areas we have some help returning. Some off this past years' scout team may contribute. We would not be happy if this were next year's recruited squad with the coaches having all year to recruit, but to have this much with this little amount of time spent...we may be fortunate...we'll just have to wait and see. I see some talent that may contribute but some that will go almost directly to the scout team. Go Mustangs!!!
