UPDATE-SMU Legacy Quincey Whittington Comiits

Postby Stallion » Tue Jan 22, 2008 10:29 pm

UTIL Quincey Whittington, Sr., Cuero

Isn't this Arthur Whittington's son? (Actually Arthur's newphew). Hmm haven't heard a thing about him since I mentioned him last year. Had a great year and could play any number of positions. This was was from Dave Cambell's Texas Football 2008 All Texas High School Team. Made second team All State although the site focuses on high school accomplishments rather than recruiting projections.

HT/WT/40: 5-9, 160, 4.6
Key Statistics: 205-1903, 26 TDs rushing; 45-748, 5 TDs receiving; 15-288 punt returns; 18-330 kick returns
How he made the cut: DCTF just loves numbers like Quincey's - a line that shows a kid can truly do it all on the football field, the rare kind of player who transcends today's tendency towards specialization. We weren't even exactly sure how to list Whittington at first - is he a running back? A wide receiver? He's clearly a running back with great hands, but then what about the special teams excellence? And his ability as a defensive back? Guys like this Cuero senior are the exact reason to include the UTIL category ... who knows where you might use this Quincey on this team?

actually he is Arthur's newphew. Arthur's brother Quincey is his father. Some may remember that Quincey was a big time star at Cuero after Arthur. Quincey is apparently only 5-7 but hey he might worth a look at Inside Receiver.

this Whittington kid is simply a great athlete-can't believe more haven't been all over him. He was injured as I remember early in his Junior year.

2700 yards total offense-mostly running and catching but 4 for 4 in passing not including 19.20 yards per punt return. Over 3300 if you include all offense including special teams. I hear his best position may be CB. If I had to guess who the kid was who June Jones was surprised had not been offered I think it might be Whittington.

Rivals confirms commitment. Said Tulsa after getting tapes late was interested in him-but he is solid to SMU. I love guys that never come off the field and excel at everything they do.

I am just happy to see us promote, recruit and get a legacy. We have been very remiss and missed some good opportunities in the past. This has to be corrected and hopefully this is a start.

Nice player who defies statistics — he's tougher than he should be at that size, and faster than the stopwatch says he is. More than anything, he's extremely tough. Has great drive in his legs, and powers through arm tackles. He's not a pure speed guy, but he's an elusive, slashing runner who is hard to tackle (see his rushing yards and touchdowns). Absolute redshirt candidate to get bigger (I actually have him at 5-9.75 and 168) and stronger, but he's a guy who can contribute in a number of roles on offense and special teams.
