SMU recruit Kevin Craft is now a 5 Star Prospect on Scout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, Scout is showing a commitment to UCLA-no story yet though.

And not only that but it looks like we are going to have to fight UCLA again for 2009 coveted QB Josh Nunes, who is a Dan Morrison recruit according to rivals.com.

And I was starting to think he was going to don the Red and Blue. I guess I need to keep my delusions of graduer in check.

First of all I think UCLA is a better fit considering the circumstance. Also, this is why I don't fully trust these ranking systems.

Craft is obviously a legitimate recruit and deserving of the attention. However, did Craft improve his footwork or his throwing motion over the last two weeks? I doubt it and yet he is now suddenly upgraded to a 5 star(because UCLA wants him). Whatever.

Could the logic that craft was upgraded due to the interest from UCLA also be used with our other recruits and targets? Perhaps we found some true gems who flew under the radar and would have gotten a greater ranking with more interest from some of the bigger schools.

OK, on to the next.

We've got Justin Willis, Zach Rhodes and Logan Turner, and we soon will be adding Braden Smith and Bo Levi Mitchell. I have complete faith that Coach Jones and his staff can coax a solid performance out of at least 2 or 3 of them. Who knows, Coach Jones might even have his eye on another JUCO, too.

Besides, don't you always say Scout is worthless? Clearly Craft is no good (kidding, of course).

Agreed. While Craft would have been a nice pickup, it would be almost ignorant to say that our current stable of QBs is incapable. I'm willing to bet that with a coach known for getting the most out of his quarterbacks and putting them in position to win will be able to turn each of our guys into capable signal callers when called upon.

That or he was given promises of a good shot at the starting job for the Bruins.

Craft had to finish summer session at Mt Sac, which would have delayed his arrival at SMU until the fall, or so I've heard. That pretty much is the main reason he decided on UCLA instead of SMU. He'd still be close enough to make the drive to Westwood to go over the playbook or look over film with the coaches, so he wouldn't be that far behind the other qbs learning the new system. No reps in spring ball, but at least he is close enough to met with team mates after school. He didn't necessarily choose Neuheisel & Chow over June Jones. His inability to transfer in time for spring pretty much sealed his fate.

Good luck to him. That's a nice opportunity with Chow out there now. Six first round QBs.

good player, but just a bad fit under the circumstances for him. I think if Justin Willis didn't have 2 years of eligibility left, he might be a Mustang

A guy like Craft is not afraid of JWIll - no offense to Willis. We did not lose him for that. UCLA is BCS and just down the street - not that tough a call. We got several switching to us for the same reason.
