Ok, if recruiting season was over, how would everyone rate this year's class to the last several Bennett recruiting classes?

As it stands today...about average to below average. Feel like we needed to get some improvement on the defensive side of the ball that we haven't done.

Course considering that JJ had about two weeks to put this all together...I give him a B so far and with hoepfully TT coming in we could go up.

I'm excited b/c we've upgraded the speed of the team and done it in 2 weeks. Pretty much, JJ was dealt the shortest hand you can get w/regards to timing and we'll get a slew of salvageable players, if not a few impact kids. Obviously, I expect better in the future, but the fact that he'll get close to PB classes w/two weeks prep, says everything you need to know about the future
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

The only semi-fair comparison would be this class to Bennett's first, time-shortened class.

As someone said though, it is telling that the class really isn't too far off what PB used to put together and JJ did it in two weeks.

And with a few breaks this way and that we could be sitting nice

According to ESPN:
In 2006, we had a player rated 76, a player rated 71, and everyone else was unknown, unscouted.

In 2007, we had a 79, 76, 74, 72, 3 upper 60s, and then a bunch of unknowns.

This year, we have a 71, 71, 71, 70, 67, 62, 60, and then a bunch of unknowns.

So, it wouldn't take much to pass last year in ESPN's estimation - 3 upper level 70's recruits. Victor Jones is a 76.

Then again, Dews is a 73, so take those ratings with a grain of salt.

As a comparison, TCU shows 78, 76, 73, 66, and then unknowns, but show a small recruiting class. Tulsa is 78, 73, 69, 58, unknowns. Rice has 6 players in the 70s, a 60s and a bunch of unknowns. Houston has 6 70s, 3 60s and a bunch of unknowns.

So, I think if we added 2 or 3 high 70s, we would not only better last years class, but come about even with some of our rivals.

ESPN is a half-assed operation. Rivals will give a truer reflection-and even better analysis is offers by other Division 1A schools which we can all do at signing date. I have a post from last recruiting season that has all offers tied up in a nice tidy package-try to do the same with this class.

I agree with you as far as Rivas having more coverage and displaying the offers, which is a great way to judge recruits.

I do like reading the ESPN analysis of different players, and what the weaknesses and strengths of each player are.

I just looked on Rivals and it's interesting that in 2005, JWill's class, we had ten three-star signees.
