I am all for more speed on the field, and I have never (well I did watch some of Southlakes last playoff game) seen him play, so I have no idea if he is just a great playmaker who is a little undersized at LB (ie Zach Thomas) or a guy who made plays at the high school level but may not have the ability to make them at the college level because 6-7 345lb Tech lineman will bury him! I agree that he should be considered and I hope you know I was just bustin' on you about the relative thing, but more than all that I will trust that June and his staff will give all the recruits the due diligence they deserve for playing well in High School!

hey I was the one who said he's probably be worth the gamble to offer a scholarship if he has the speed to play SS-which is not his HS position. I've never said a bad thing about Tomlin. I said I'd leave that open to the Coaches to see if he had the speed. If he runs anything less than 4.6(streatching it-he ain't a D-1A prospect at SS). He's only about 6-0 so that ain't great for LB. Smalls doesn't play LB or SS he plays QB so you're not comnparing the same thing. Both are really on the borderline which is reflected in their lack of offers. All reports I've seen about Smalls is that he has excellent quickness which means he might have the speed to play any number of offensive or defensive positions.

Did he shave the front half of his head but leave the back end an inch longer? Bold...very Brennan-esque?

Plano East's Smalls picks Virginia

Plano East standout Riko Smalls will get the chance to play quarterback, and he will do so at Virginia.

Smalls said this afternoon that he has committed to Virginia, picking the Cavaliers over ACC rival Wake Forest, which recruited the Plano East senior as a safety.

Playing quarterback wasn't the only reason Smalls went with Virginia.

"It's a factor, but not the only factor," Smalls said. "Wake is a great school as is Virginia. Something about Virginia made me want to go there. It's a very highly respected school, the top public university in the country. It's hard to say no to a school like that."

Smalls (6-0, 183), ranked No. 82 on SportsDay’s Area Top 100, led all area 5A passers in yards in the regular season, falling 11 yards shy of 3,000 yards. That despite playing with an injured ankle most of the season that hampered the dual-threat quarterback’s running ability.

He definitely deserves a shot to play QB.

"The thing is at Virginia I'll get a chance to play quarterback early," Smalls said. "It's an opportunity to go in and compete early.
