Kind of feels likeSMU is back into the football business?
For all of thoe who wondered if JJ could pull together a better class in a few weeks than PB could in a year . . . you are about to find out that the answer is a resounding YES.
If what I am reading on this board is true (and I am holding my breath until signing day), stealing Commits from an SEC school (ok, Vandy), getting Jucos into SMU, and competing with UCLA for a top QB prospect - I would say that SMU is on the FB map once again in the eyes of recruits. In the words of the great Ronald Reagan: "Ask yourself, are you better off now than you were 8 years (or even 8 months) ago?" I say - YES and YES!! Go JJ - pull in this class!!!!
Are we really? I am a big June Jones fan, but so far all the commitments have been rated 2 stars just like PB's. Does anyone really know if the recruits are better? Here's hoping the answer is a resounding yes and forgive my skepticism, but I've been fooled before and won't believe anything I hear until we become consistent winners on the field and have to tell the family I won't be spending Christmas or New Years with them because I am headed for a Bowl game.
Other than the 3-stars of course. Derail the Frogs!
if the rumors are true we will have minimum 5, three stars - and that is with a whopping three weeks or recruiting.
Should make things quite interesting with a year to work his system. And that is not counting the informal invitations to transfer in that will no doubt be issued for several post signing.
Who are the 5?
Odiari, McElroy, Thompson, (Christian and Parker if they commit)
Also, I believe Jones is a 3 star quality player....even though he's rated just below a 3 star at 5.4
As I said - I am holding my breath. As for next year's Holiday plans . . . I would wait to see what happens - but don't make any plans that you can't get out of if Ponies should make a run at 7 or more Ws. All on this board know that this was a team far better than 1 W last year - and all of those guys are back . . .[/i]
IMO, McElroy could be the biggest commit of this group. - 3 star 5.6 DB. We have been atrocious in the secondary over the past couple of years. We need immediate help there. Also, Christian is a must get too.

If the QB prospect for whom we are competiting with UCLA is Kevin Craft, he committed to the bruins a couple of days ago. Nevertheless, I agree with your comments.
I didn't realize that the secondary was such a problem for SMU. Jeff Reinbold recruited CBs Newberry/Lewis/Mouton (the top 3 CBs) and safeties Patek/Robinson (Patek started all year, Robinson for part of the year) for Hawaii...and all of those players were from Texas! Reinbold also recruited Hawthorne, who started some games at CB in 2006 and started at WR all of 2007... Patek's Mom made it very clear that Reinbold was the ONLY Hawaii coach to recruit those Texas players. If he can assemble the entire secondary for Hawaii from JCs in Texas, he should be able to get SMU some DBs! By the way, Texas' limited recruiting budget meant that Reinbold did all of that recruiting via phone...he didn't have the money to fly to Texas to do home visits.
