I agree. A lot of people can't stand him, and I understand that, but I loved watching his teams play.

College bball is losing an icon.

He loves Frank Sinatra's "My Way" so this is something, that while surprising, it kind of goes with his track record.

A lot of wins.
A lot of success.
A lot of controversy.

I heard a couple of his interviews, and he just didn't seem like he was into it as before. But who knows. He will be missed.

The Greatest Coach in America. But coach K will pass him on the all-time win list.

Bet he beats up Digger Phelps for the ESPN gig now. Dean Smith was great coach that didn't choke his players. John Wooten was a great coach that didn't throw chairs. Winning by itself isn't greatness. Character and winning is greatness.

He really hadn't been coaching all that much this year. His son is the heir apparent and had been doing everything anyway including running all
practics.....it doesn't surprise me at all.

It leaves more time for Bob to go hunting. :-)

Couldn't have said it better myself. The guy is a grade A [deleted], and that's why he ended in his career in Lubbock at a 2nd tier school instead of a program like Indiana, because EVERYONE else stayed away from him.

At Texas Tech he was mediocre recruiter as he was during his last I dunno 5 or so years at Indiana. His great teams were built when he was competitive for top players and before he became known as such an [deleted]. He is the poster boy for the importance of great recruiting to be competive. Barely had a winning conference record at Tech. When is the last time he had a team finish in the Top 20 over the last 10 years. I'd bet its been 15 years since his 1992-1993 Indiana Team. Hasn't won a conference title since that season.
