the starting defensive backs for the upcoming season?Their bio please and classification
Team Bios can be found at:
http://smumustangs.cstv.com/sports/m-fo ... l-mtt.html I'm just guessing, but I'd go with: Starters: CB Bryan McCann CB Derius Bell S Bryce Hudman S De'Von Bailey. Rock Dennis could take one of the Safety spots, but what with his early injury last season, I have no idea about him. I'm hot and cold on McCann. I'm hoping that "Play 10 yards off the reciever and let them catch the short outside pass" was a scheme issue. I like Bell a lot, but as is often the case the kid has one hell of a personality, and I tend to let that cloud my judgement. The same can be said for Bailey. Bryce Hudman has a fanbase on here, but for whatever reason I tended to focus on him when he was screwing things up. -CoS
My guess for the starting DB's are
Rock Dennis jr. JUCO safety Devon Bailey so. SS Derrius Bell so CB I could also see Deyon McElroy here Bryan McCann so CB Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.
probably none of them have a job sewed up except maybe McCann(Jr.). JUCO transfer who was hurt last year named Rock Dennis (Jr.) might start at SS, Bryce Hudman started at the other Safety last year. Derris Bell(Soph) showed promise last year as a freshman. None of these guys have won jobs yet as they were porous last year. Go to SMUMUSTANGS.Com hit the link Football, then Roster and you can find their bios.
This is true, no doubt. But there's also the Chicken-Egg problem of not having much pash rush. I suppose we should consider the whole defense wide open when it comes to spring ball. -CoS
Tyler Jones could be in the mix, too. He was a redshirt freshman this past year and saw playing time near the end of the season. Looked like he had some promise.
Re: the starting defensive backs for the upcoming season?
This is either Bigdaddy's cousin (seriously ignorant) or someone else leading you guys on a snipe hunt. ![]()
That's true, I'd forgotten about him. Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.
UH used a 3-3-5 "Okie" package very effectively in the 2007 season. That was installed by Coach McMackin at UH, but given the personnel at SMU now I wouldn't be surprised if you saw that next season at SMU. UH also had a base 4-3 and a 4-2-5 nickel package last season. Before McMackin, UH had Glanville who liked the 3-4 with big DEs. It looks to me that the SMU DEs are generally too small for that system.
I'm also missing McElroy in the equation too. If he plays to potential (gotta hate that word) He'll be on the field a lot too. -CoS
So you're sitting down Bryce Hudman, who played very well at times last year, for Rock Dennis, who MIGHT play well? With a new coaching staff in place, there are zero starters at this point.
JJ said the thing that you can expect from next years team is that it will be much faster. That being said, I dont think that Hudman will be starting at safety. He is just not fast enough and is not very good in space. I do think that he could add 15 lbs and play OLB.
