For those curious -- including me to an extent -- I am providing for public consumption how the 2008 signing class compares to the past five years. This is based on information at 9:40 a.m. CST on 2/6
Year Ranking Avg. Star
2008 86 2.15
2007 98 2.17
2006 107 2.13
2005 81 2.23
2004 76 2.05
2003 62 2.43
Draw your own conclusions.

Pretty well tells me that Belichick is a great coach and Bob Knight is a meanie.

Little Rock area was very fortunate. It looks like there are deaths in the teens a little north of us. I had grandkids huddling in the closet after their grandmother told her daughter to bring them to my house for safety. I tried to point out that the whole family could be wiped out and we should stay separate, but that did not work.
And be careful. I think Knucklehead is a trademarked name on this board.

I'd be interested to know the average player ratings (not just stars) of those classes. It seems we've had a few more "high" two stars this year and less unrated or 5.0 players.

We should not forget that JJ make our class with less than 30 days to work with. Next year should be a key year for the Ponies.

The key now is to not throw an o-fer or a 1 or 2-fer next year. We need to show some progress on the field to aid in the 2009 recruiting.

The bottom half of SMU's class is very suspect-you can't describe them with any other word but Sleepers-since they were not offered by any other Division 1A schools-that's a heck of a lot of sleepers.. Of those I still like Drewery, Whittington and Nwanbunga especially because they have the physical skills that translate to Division 1A. I think SMU did better AFTER week one of recruiting and then gathered some momentum.

I get the impression the coaches might have thought they would need hustle to just fill the class given the timing, but then as they had a higher and higher yield (acceptence) they realized they could be a bit pickier. That might also explain the size of the class.
Of course - I am guessing and dont know what I am talking about - but that makes me very un-unique around here.

I think you are correct. I actually think most of the kids that visited the second week were decent prospects under the circumstances
