SMU vs. Rice game thread

Just got back from the game myself. I was about sick to my stomach during the first half because our play was so atrocious, and against a really poor Rice team. The press really helped in the 2nd half, and Roberts came up big (apparently he didn't start because he had a migraine). Walker also hit a couple big 3's when it counted, and Killen hitting those free throws down the stretch really put this game away.

I have yet to buy season tickets for basketball, but walking back to the car, the wife was saying "we should go to more games". All I can say is if they are as exciting as the last half of the game, I won't be the only one as a new season ticketholder next year.

Rice was the worst team I have seen this year. We seemed to be in a daze the first half, especially shooting. When Doh starting pressing the second half the whole game changed. You could see it in the eyes of the Rice players. This game was also very physical and the refs let the players play. A very enjoyable second half and a game we deserved to win.

Thought I saw our ex-athletic director sitting on the front row with our current University President. Glad he's doing OK.

This was quite possibly the worst officiated game I have ever had the displeasure of watching, though I must admit it got better at the end.

Any time a player leaves the floor not once, but twice, without passing or shooting and no ref calls a travel, I have to question either the competency and/or the eyesight of the officiating crew. That's just one example, but it was extremely frustrating as a fan.

My personal favorite was when their guy went to the floor with the ball in his hands, rolled around, and then when one of our players was trying to pry the ball away from him and it was not in anyone's possession, they called a travel on us.

I just want to point out what an awesome night we had at the line. We have had some trouble in the past, but missing only one free throw was amazing - especially, Killen who isn't so good from the line.

Roberts really turned the game around with his threes in the second half. Bamba really was the only one playing in the first half and made some nice shots. And not only did Mike Walker make some shots for the first time, he also had 5 assists.

Even though this is a horrible Rice team, maybe the second half play will translate into some confidence down the stretch for the team.

what an enjoyable game. They were awful in the first half but really turned it around in the second. It seemed like they hit every big 3 to get back in and take the lead.

Nice win. I thought they won the game with defense and aggressiveness in the second half. The free throw shooting sealed the deal. Nice win - congrats to the team.
