Apparently everyone can get a second chance
George O'Leary will be named head coach at Central Florida. I thought if anyone had "goofed" his way out of a head coaching career - especially in college - it was him.

Re: Apparently everyone can get a second chance
Geeez the guy fudged on his resume-let's stone him to death-with all that goes on with college head coaches-does that really call for a lifetime suspension. I say let the first college coach without a worst sin in his past throw the first stone. Pretty Pollyanna to think this guy shouldn't be given a second chance. Heck this university has committed about 120 violations worse than this in the last 35 years since he fudged on his resume.

I agree and I would bet that he cleaned up that resume. All he needs now is to show his track record at Ga Tech. UCF will be a fine addition ot CUSA. Let's just hope the western division holds up it's end of the bargain in helping CUSA maintain the football reputation they've worked so hard to earn.

Re: Apparently everyone can get a second chance
Losing the Notre Dame HC job was stiff punishment and a national embarrassment for George O'Leary.
A college coach at heart (approximately four combined years with the Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers) since his start as a high school coach, he won and lost the most visible coaching position in the NCAA.
He served his time (away from college football) and he will probably be more ethical than a lot of coaches in order to rebuild his reputation.
Coach O'Leary coaching and recruiting in Florida will produce results.
UCF made a very good hire.

A great hire! The best Tech coach since Bobby Dodd and the first to win since Dodd! Central Florida will benefit and so will C-USA. If TCU bolts (and they area crazy if they do)C-USA should look at adding Florida Atlantic. They have a great program and a great coach in a huge media market. This game today is all about media markets and death valley is anywhere west of the metroplex. Ask USC.

This is a HUGE hire for UCF. Not a good sign for SMU however. Hiring someone of O'Leary's stature is a TRUE committment.

I don't think HorsePower was saying he should be banned for life or anything .... just that it's surprising someone had the guts to pull the trigger on that hire. Kudos to the UCF administration. He'll do a fine job.
