I hope the young man proves the naysayers wrong by doing well. Only time will tell.

We know one thing, if Henson ever gets arrested, he'll be real popular in prison. The guy is really beneath contempt. He's prejudged a student before the student ever sets foot in a class. Its clear that Henson is also a racist. He must detest African Americans since he seems to only pick on African American Students in the letter. I hope his little tome goes to the Provost's office and he gets called in for a little chat. He's an instructor without tenure. Let's hope that he's told that he'll be plying his trade with DCCC next football season. SMU does not deserve to have racists teaching classes at SMU.

Should instructors (lecturers) be allowed to comment on potential students? Could not Ordiari have a burning desire to take a course in the homosexual influence on post modern Spanish? If so, has the instructor’s comments created a bias against the student? Who cares what the instructor thinks, is not his comments in essence a hostile threat to a potential student in one of the instructor’s courses? Does the university have a policy of open intimidation that instructors are allowed to use against potential students?

Henson's opinions are of no consequence but his bias and intimidation should raise alarms with the administration. Ordiari would be wise to sign up for this Bozo's course and then sue the daylights out to the University for any Grade less than an A.

You know what's lost on this? This could be Mr. Odiari's first, if not one of, day of class here at SMU. Brand new student trying to make a fresh start and move on with his life. Then he gets to open to the newspaper and find out that someone with a public platform is kicking and screaming about him the second he sets foot on campus. What an terrible way to have to start of your college career at a new school.

I've decided to pretty much ignore what any and all MILITANT FACULTY members have to say about anything regarding athletics.

Didn't read the latest entry. Don't really care.

ponyboy wrote:Like he’s done with all of the recruits with questionable past actions (and who of us don’t have a few of those, right?), Coach Jones did his homework on Alex Odiari. He called former coaches, friends, teachers to ensure that Alex is indeed a good person who needs a second chance. He talked in depth to Alex about expectations for SMU footballers, that all who put on the uniform represent the school. Your exposing this kid’s past was harsh and hurtful.

Great response. Have any of the guys Jones recruited gotten in trouble under him? Or was it all before he brought them in at Hawaii, as I suspect?

Don't know, but he clearly has had a hand in turning some guys around like Colt Brennan, who was a convicted rapist (date rape), and he was a model citizen at UH.

I made the comment about the "bathroom sting", but this teacher's comments do not belong in a written statement in the campus newspaper.

This is far more serious than my joking around. The more I consider what this teacher has done, the more upset I have become. First, he doesn't understand the space that should exist between a teacher or professor and the student. This "space" should a safe zone, where the student shouldn't be attacked personally or a yound coed approached sexually. The professor is a mentor...a teacher and should recognize and respect the power he/she might have over molding the opinions of their students.

Second, for a teacher to call out a student whether or not he had personal knowledge of the situation or not is not acceptable. In this case he did not have any personal knowledge and relied solely on newspaper articles which are always highly suspect.

I am beginning to rant like the OSU football coach, but this teacher has no business at SMU.

The coeds are in no danger from this particular lecturer... Seriously though, you are exactly right that he crossed the line by attacking students. Does he call out the fraternity/sorority members by name when they get popped for an MIP?
