Not sure what to make of this one. Fresno LB coach? With all the money that SMU has, I was expecting a more experienced DC. Usually JJ picks a coach with NCAA and NFL experience as a DC or HC.

Who ever it is, JJ likes a gambling defense with a lot of action. The D will be an attacking big time play defense that will go after tunovers first to give his high powered offense the ball. Don't expect a stopping type of D. They will be blitzing all game long. The LBs, Safeties, and CBs will be blitzing at any given time.

Its going to be exciting SMU football!

Sounds like business as usual on defense.

They say winning the turnover battle wins games and that was true. Usually the offense had some bad luck on multiple fumbles and interceptions which caused Hawaii to lose the game. That is why it was important for the defense to concentrate on getting turnovers.

When it works, its a beautiful thing and it will win championships.

Hmm... a rumbarita sounds good right now. Might have to make a stop at Mattito's next time I'm in Dallas...

The guy was at Portland State, and he has stints as DC at some other schools. Could be a placeholder since McMackin was the first choice. Could be that he works out. Maybe this guy can make something out of our linebacking core. I give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

You THINK they will? they have. it's a signed contract.

Special teams coach who's name was mentioned last night in threads that have since been deleted will be in town today to sign.

You're very observant.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Interesting. We sign UTEP's DC and make him an LB coach and Freson's LB coach and make him DC. That's one of those odd quirks.

If this guy coached at Fresno the last 7 years, I'm sure Jones is very familiar with his talent and ability. The hire surprised me, I was thinking/hoping it was Glanville. But I have to believe that Jones was picking someone that he knows will get the job done.

And the special teams coach whose name we cannot mention sounds awesome!

Don't forget that Mason was DC at Boise State, Nevada, Northern Iowa too. So it's not like he's a stretch.
