Give me baseball. It's a fan-friendly sport. It's marketable. It would be covered by local TV and newspapers (at least when UT or A&M comes in for a series). You really can't do all that with track. Even when we had a track team, we concentrated on throwers rather than the sprinters people like to watch.
I appreciate SMU's accomplishments in track and field, but it doesn't hold a candle to baseball in terms of what it could generate for SMU. In fact, as much as we revere our soccer programs, baseball would be a much higher profile sport for SMU.
But then, we don't market our soccer programs. Tons of soccer families in the area and you'd never know SMU soccer existed if it didn't go to a Final Four once in a while.
I got no problem with softball if it means bringing baseball back. Not that it matters to me, but there are many, many more cute girls than Rosie O'Donnells playing college softball.

In order to put this thread in severe jeopardy. As long as we recruit women's softball players and other sports like we recruit women golfers, then there will be no problem.

I love baseball. But we absolutely sucked darn near the entire time we had a team around here. We "won" one SWC championship and didn't even represent the conference, UT did. So umm why should we bring back a sport that we were completely dreadful at and have to compete with rinky dink programs such as UT and Rice?
Give me Lacrosse. It's a natural sport for us given our broad student body and draw from the east coast, especially the Maryland and Virginia area. Couple that with the fact lacrosse fits in with the atmosphere of SMU, as well as lacrosse exploding in popularity. We do need a spring sport around these parts though.

That is clearly not the criteria at SMU for whether to have a sport.

Build it as part of the Bush Library, in order to reflect W's time as Rangers owner.

Maybe they could have an interactive exhibit where you can pretend to trade off Sammy Sosa for Harold Baines and Fred Manrique.

Now you guys have me thinking. Why not also have it house the Spanish Language and Gay Studies Institute? This could be a tip of the cap toward the high concentration of Latinos playing baseball.
Not that there's anything wrong with either...

Not many athletes are dual football/baseball in college. There are many FB/Track. We can be more attractive to more players by having a track team. Track first and then baseball is fine, but if you want to enhance the football recruiting possibilities, track needs to be first.
Not to mention, we have a much better history of success in track than baseball. I say this and I believe this even though I was a football/baseball player, and have no track background.

I should write another article. I've got plenty of rants built up: Henson, the Pub, Baty, and our Uni's half-ass commitment to being top 25

Don't forget your propensity to use terms like "wispiness" on a football board and its detrimental effect on your manhood.
