We marched 80ish (don't remember the number) this year. Up from 60 a few years ago. Im not sure about how big we were at the biggest, but that whole 96 guys and doll thing came from somewhere

It was 96 guys and a doll when I was there. Then it became Guys and Dolls (still capped at 96) with four twirlers. I think for some reason we had four women who were like State Champion twirlers there at the same time. Then they added women to the band because of Title IX after that.

I think the largest the band was, was just over 100 in '79, '80.

We do need to grow the band, and in order to do that they need 1) a new band hall and 2) scholarship money.

A new band hall is the biggest necessity at the moment. With the natatorium being rebuilt in the next few years, the band hall will be gone. Without a new home, the band could end up in Meadows. If that happens, the band would eventually morph into a marching amoeba band, and all the tradition related to the band over the last 80-90 years will be forgotten.

Please don't let this happen. Help us build the Mustang Band a new home.

I can't see Meadows "taking over" the band. The last time this was discussed back in 1995, the reason Meadows did not do it is because it was totally cost prohibitive. I don't see why we couldn't work with them to use their facilities but I couldn't see them "taking over" the program...at least not without a fight.

The scholarship money is a must. While it's nice to have a bigger band, the band really needs some "studs" in certain areas. It'd be nice to have a couple of screaming trumpet players. That would be way better than spending money on 23 bass drum and cymbal players...but then again, that's just me. Anyway, go and support the band. They need your money. Anyone want to start a "circle of champions" for the band? :D

Remember the blueprints for building a new band hall in Ownby back in '77?

I recall one of the 60's yearbooks having a quote on the band page that was something like "Hopefully next year, the band will move out of the natatorium basement!"

PAMR, I agree, I don't think that using Meadows facilities would quickly translate into Meadows brass taking over the band. As far as I know, and as you mentioned, they really don't want anything to do with a marching band.
