I'm with ALEX LIFESON, bring on spring football.

JT is just playing devils advocate. From what I have read, the kid made a few mistakes, but hardly rates as a thug..ala UT style. The fact is that he was actually recruited before JJ got here, but JJ believes in giving second chances and I think that is good. I also believe that JJ won't take kindly to someone thumbing their nose at that second chance. Therefore, I'm not worried.

We finally have a true HC with experience and a play scheme that works. I say let's rejoice and enjoy the future of SMU football... and the joys of The Boulevard. :D

I was going to try to link you to one of the post talking about this, but it appears all the post concerning this recruit have been deep sixed. My memory recalls something about a restraining order which had to do with his girl friend. As far as I can remember, he was never charged with anything. Beyond that I say we drop it.

PK you are correct.

From the DMN:
Jones, who has a reputation for giving kids second chances, said he looked into the situation carefully.`"I have a good feelling that he has a chance to be a really good football player for me, and he's a good kid," Jones said. "Sometimes kids need second chances."

As I recall he had an altercation with his girlfriend and apparently she got a restraining order. Probably similar to the kind of peace bond order you can get from a JP in Texas. Do not believe he was ever charged with any kind of criminal assault. Do not know if the true facts of the situation were ever made public. He was later arrested for having a fake ID in a bar, a very common offense even many years ago when I was in college. To say he is a thug based on these facts is a stretch and very unfair. JJ said he and his staff did a very thorough background investigation of Odiari and were satisfied he was a good kid and worthy of a second chance for a scholarship. So this should be the end of the story as to his past. Hopefully both a great academic and athletic career lie ahead at SMU.

Alex, if you do happen to get to this point in this thread on pf.com. I am more than excited that you chose to play out your eligibility at SMU. we love our program, and are all very passionate about it if you couldn't tell from reading this website. I can't wait to watch you tear up the opposing offenses.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Hey, I am all excited that we are no longer holding up our athletes to any higher standard than ordinary students as far as criminal backgrounds, academics, etc. My point is not to "trash" this guy (although it does not suprise me that Inane doesn't get it-that guy has his own agenda, which apparently now includes trashing good guys like PK), it is to emphasize that the recruiting standards are changing, and the fact that he is here despite the fact he has this hiccup in his background is evidence of that. I welcome him on board. I am not like some others who think that a mistake, even a criminal one, makes you unworthy of being a mustang. I see his recruitment as an emphasis on becoming competitive on the field. I love that he's a smart kid, too.

People make mistakes who cares about the player's past. Look at his performance in the class room.....pretty impressive. I hope SMU gives more kids second chances. Too many people on this board are hypocritical idiots.

jUTstang

you are just a ThugHorn supporter
you want to pretend this new SMU recruit is somehow
in the same category as your ThugHorns that are caught
with pounds of weed, illegal drugs, illegal weapons/guns,
breaking into apartments, and beating people senseless....
but reality is what it is...

it's not the same any more than a jaywalker that breaks
the law is the same as a Charles Manson that breaks the law.
sure they are both lawbreakers ...but miles apart.

this young man coming to SMU is an academic honoree
thats not an "if" or a "maybe"
i bet your UT thugs were Honor Roll!?
LOL...yeah sure!

you imply this new SMU recruit might not graduate or what "if" he doesn't
thats an "if"
"if" "if" "if" "if"
why do you want to assume the worst about an SMU player?
it's not an "if" that Texas has had horrible graduation rates
you imply this new SMU recruit might break the law while at SMU
and what "if" he does?
thats an "if"
again "if" "if" "if" "if"
it isn't an "if" that Texas Longhorns were arrested for very serious crimes.

reality sucks doesn't it?

it's too bad you'll demean a new SMU recruit
on a public message board with the chance he or his family
might see it....because you want to to bring up an old
argument about your ThugHorns. you brought it up.
i am sure SMU coaches, staff, and fans appreciate you
using a brand new SMU recruit and demeaning him to
further your pro-ThugHorn arguments.

it clearly shows where your alot of your allegiance is.

Hey by the way....ya still questioning Orsini and
how far behind the coaching search took us?
Or is that just another example of you being wrong?

i am not going to "take the bait" and start some big long back and forth negative discussion about an smu recruit that hasn't ever even played in an smu uniform. He or his family may be reading this message board and he has a clean record as a member of the smu family. until that changes i won't bite. don't you think thats best?

5 yard penalty for offsides on IPP. JT went with the hard count and pulled IPP offsides...............

It's so predictable it's funny. He just should not have f--ked with PK, whose fine work I just happen to admire.

And a shout out to the Special D guys-meeting somebody face to face is wonderful for perspective, and if Inane is a buddy of y'alls, no offense to you for the digs into him. I think PK is a friend of the Special D tent as well.
