The sorry part about all these increases are the fact that people are getting older and retiring. I have several on my list for the Morgan Campaign that have indicated that if these increases continue they will not be able to afford the parking close in but will also not buy season tickets and no longer give to the Mustang Club. These are people who now give inexcess of $1000 a year to the MC and buy season basketball and football tickets. They have done this for the last 30 years. I realize D1 athletics require $$$, but at some point it may be counter productive. The SMU fan base is small compared to the big state schools. Yes many in that base have very deep pockets but they also move on to other things and their prioities change. I hope the AD goes into the endowment mode soon that will help put the brakes on inflation in the ticket, parking etc prices.

the DART buses in closer to Ford Stadium instead of the
dropoff at Moody? So the older SMU fans won't be forced
to give up attending games and buying season tickets.
We need to hold on to all the fans we can. Plus after
supporting SMU thru the lean years it would be kind of
sad if they miss the June Jones turn-around.

I think something could be done for fans who have supported the school for years. Their ticket prices should be grandfathered as well as up-close parking, like at Westcott. If they can't be grandfathered, then put a cap on the increases.

But getting back to what this thread is all about, spaces on the Boulevard are premium, limited spots. IMO, they should be set at market prices.

On another note, realize that SMU tickets and the annual donation required to get them are FAR below that of the big schools. So while we complain about prices going up, and saying that we are a small school with a small fan base, the prices are extremely reasonable when compared to UT, A&M, etc., as I would expect them to be.

I hope y'all don't jump the gun and raise prices too high and too fast. You need to keep the loyal fans who supported during the lean years. Those are the true SMU fans.

When all the games are all sold out, I can understand raising prices. There are two ways to raise funds. More fans with cheap tickets or less fans with more expensive tickets.

They should at least give the fans a taste of a good season first.

Shimi, to give you an idea, ticket prices didn't go up at all this year. In fact, I moved one section closer to the 50 yard line this year for the same price as my old seats. Last season, they wanted to charge me a $500 donation to the Mustang Club to do that, so I would say they are doing a good job.

The issue is with parking, because parking spaces on campus are limited. I literally park in the lot right next to the stadium. Last season, the parking price for the whole year was $100 for that lot. This season, it went up to $150. Personally, I didn't have a problem with that.

The issue that was initially raised with this thread was parking on the Boulevard, which is where all the tailgating action happens before/during/after the game. The spots are limited, and the prices went up dramatically a couple seasons ago. They apparently went up a decent amount again this year. I wouldn't know, because I am too cheap to "pony up" for a spot on there.

So IMO, they haven't gone crazy with ticket prices......yet.

Then let we "older" fans get on the cute little red bussies with the blue ponies on them and let them come to the Blvd. I then would not have to walk the devastating 1/4 of a mile all the way to that distant stadium.

Do they still have the tram that used to go continually around the Blvd when I was there? If so, the tram could shuttle we old folks from Moody to the Blvd. and then we could just crawl or roll to the game from the tailgate.

That is an excellent idea. I had to buy Meadows parking last year because I bring my father who thinks he can't walk from Moody to the Blvd to Ford. Nevermind that he does 2 miles on the treadmill every day. :roll:

(No disrespect to those older folks who truly are not able-bodied.)

get the elder fans a bit closer than Moody if they can't
afford the new parking prices? I wonder if we could ask
DART to supply one less full size bus and instead send
a DART Handi-ride mini-bus that would not have the
turning radius problems? That way the loyal elder SMU
fans could be dropped off right at the satdium?
