I certainly do not mean to "bash" any player, that position tends to bring a little more opinion out of people. He is not nor should any QB be the entire offense. Great offensive teams have a guy that can lead, raise every one else's level of play and get the ball in the endzone without all the "soap opera" stuff. Just play and take care of your business on and off the field.
How's the dude not taking care of his business off the field? He very rightly punched a stalker due the fact that no one in authority was doing anything about his repeated complaints about the guy. To me, that's taking care of business.
That's probably why you're on a fan message board and he is a DI college QB. That is not taking care of business, he hurt himself and his team, not to mention a win in the game he was suspended would probably meant a bowl. And that is one of many issues on and off the field.
I agree with your point about his suspension hurting his team. There is no question that what he did was uncalled for and showed a serious lapse of judgment off the field. However, it is clear that you either have an anti-Willis or pro-Turner agenda, as you have gone on record even during the season as saying that Turner is better and will probably be the starter this spring.
Willis' IMMATURITY did play a part in costing us a bowl in '06, he was not "taking care of business," that's a pretty ill-advised thing to say. Still, his TD's don't lie, and I wouldn't give any of those back. But I have to say I have also heard from a couple of "inside sources" that Turner is the best QB on the team. That's cool, take it for what it's worth. If anything, we can just feel good knowing we have some depth at the position.
I think depth at QB is an understatement

When I look at your post history and find that almost every post you have made is related to Turner, it kind of destroys your credibility in QB discussions.
The best player will play at QB as with all of the positions. Willis is a great QB. If someone else beats him out then that QB is a great player. The problem with our team last year was not our QB. Let's start with the defense and then go to coaching. Bennett did a horrible job last season.....end of story. We have a new proven winning head coach.....the results should follow.
35straight said "Nobody is "bashing" the Golden Boy. I have always liked Willis and think that he is a fine athlete. Yes he holds plenty of passing records and is a play maker. However, the new scheme will be one that is not "jail break left" "jail break right". Justin will need to be more disciplined and not so much of a gunslinger. If he is coachable, which I hope he is, he will do just fine. It's going to take a team to win. After all he's no V.Y."
I'm with ya on this, gaining discipline is the key for Justin. JJ will NOT, put up with his loose canon antics. Justin doesn't have a real strong arm, and he's isn't the most accurate qb, but he gives us the best option at the position, IF he let's June mold him.
That's a great point--Willis biggest challenge this year might be his own willingness to be coached. He's not had a QB specialist over him for his first three years at SMU, and it will be an adjustment having one. How he handles a new focus on the position will determine how he performs, but it's concievable that having two years under his belt to develop habits that may not be useful in this offense may hamper him.
And I think I said it before, but since cowtown brings it up again in this thread, I agree that if Willis gets benched he'll probably seek a transfer.
Discipline of the QB is inversely proportional to the talent of the
offensive line divided by the talent of the opposing defensive line. ![]() See Roger Staubach.
